This role is full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM with occasional weekend virtual consult coverage after 6 months. Registered Nurse (RN) Wound Ostomy Job Responsibilities:
- Conducts comprehensive patient assessments to evaluate wound, ostomy, and continence needs and develop individualized care plans. Assessments may be virtual.
- Coordinates and provides direct patient care for individuals with complex wound, ostomy, and continence conditions
- Provides education and training to patients, families, and nursing staff on wound care management, ostomy care, and continence care
- Serves as a resource, preceptor and mentor for nursing staff, healthcare providers, and interdisciplinary teams
- Collaborates with healthcare teams to develop and implement evidence-based guidelines and protocols related to wound, ostomy, and continence care
- Participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and quality of care
- Stays updated with the latest advancements in wound care, ostomy care, and continence care and participate in professional development opportunities
- Fosters high standards of practice relating to the care, teaching and rehabilitation of persons having ostomies, fistulas, wounds and incontinence
- Refers patients to home care, outpatient services, and support groups as appropriate
- Anticipates ethical/spiritual/cultural needs and intervenes to maximize patient outcomes
- Advocates for patient rights from patient and family perspectives and provides counsel and acts as a resource to resolve issues
- Leads skin prevalence study within operating unit
- Demonstrates evidence of self-development by participating in a minimum of 80 hours of self-development activities with a minimum of 18 formal contact hours and maintains own Employee Continuing Education Record
- May perform additional duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Certification/Licensure: Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association; 1 of the following: Certified Wound Specialist certification, Certified Wound, Ostomy Continence Nurse certification, Certified Ostomy Care Nurse certification, Certified Wound Care Nurse certification, or 2 additional years of Registered Nurse experience providing wound/ostomy care in lieu of certification
- Experience: 3 years of Registered Nurse experience providing wound/ostomy care and Wound Certification (see certifications) or 5 years of Registered Nurse experience providing wound/ostomy care
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing; Licensed Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia
