The Fabrication & Polishing team is responsible for producing optical components for the IPG Photonics organization. The Technician will be responsible for mounting, grinding, polishing, chamfering, cleaning, and inspecting a variety of critical optical components and materials to the highest level of quality and efficiency possible.



Responsibilities



  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures in order to manufacture products to the specifications required.
  • Mount sensitive optical materials to fixtures using waxes and epoxies.
  • Fine grind components using loose and fixed abrasives to maintain tolerances <20um range.
  • Hand grind to correct squareness and wedge.
  • Maintain flat tools for best possible results.
  • Manually chamfer optical components to break sharp edges.
  • Perform in-process dimensional inspection to verify critical dimensions are within tolerance.
  • Perform visual inspection, using microscope to identify defects.
  • Clean processed material through chemical bath processes and/or surface wipe technique.
  • Keep accurate records via logs, labels, and online database.
  • Assists in the training of new associates to documented standards and practices.
  • Maintain clean and neat work area, Tools in good working order.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements with Engineering.

Requirements

  • 0-1 year of manufacturing experience
  • Good dexterity with hands to handle very sensitive components and materials.
  • Good reading and math skills, specially geometry is a plus
  • Computer skills - MS Office competency, basic knowledge to navigate Windows
  • Must be able to interpret part drawings and understand geometric dimensions & tolerances
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain detailed records for traceability
  • Appropriate communication skills to convey information to other associates and supervisors
  • Understands when to request guidance from Group leaders and proper chain of command
  • Must be able to use an optical microscope for cleaning and inspection

Pay Range:


The pay range on this posting applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location posted, the applicable range could differ. Actual starting pay is determined by a number of factors including relevant skills, qualifications, and experience.
