Job Title: Wax Injector

Shift: 2:00pm - 10:30pm

Pay Range: $18.00-$21.00 + Shift Differential (Hourly, Non-Exempt)

PURPOSE:

The Wax Pattern Operator supports PCC Carson City's investment casting process by operating automatic and Leyden wax injection machines to produce precision wax patterns used in aerospace and industrial castings. Working under general supervision, this role ensures patterns meet dimensional and visual quality standards, performs inspections, and maintains tooling and equipment to keep production on schedule.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Machine Operation & Setup

• Set up and operate wax injection machines to produce wax patterns according to technique cards and specifications.
• Verify machine parameters, run sample parts, and adjust equipment for optimum operation.
• Mount and remove tooling using various hand tools; return cleaned tools to proper storage locations.
• Operate wax extruding machines to fill and knock out billets; reclaim wax for reuse.

Inspection & Quality Control

• Perform visual and dimensional inspections of patterns using micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
• Identify and correct surface defects such as flow lines, bubbles, cracks, breaks, sinks, or non-fill conditions.
• Disassemble tooling to check for wear or damage and report issues such as burrs, nicks, gouges, or fatigue.
• Maintain accurate production and inspection records in the system.

Safety & Equipment Care

• Use lifting devices (cranes, lift tables, forklifts) to move large tools and assemblies safely.
• Follow plant safety practices, proper lifting techniques, and housekeeping standards.
• Keep work area, tools, and equipment clean and in good working condition.

Team & Documentation

• Access computer systems to locate and track tooling.
• Interpret work instructions from technique cards and quality control plans (QCPs).
• Train in standard operating procedures through verbal, written, and practical instruction.
• Perform other tasks as assigned to meet plant production goals.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive hand and arm motions for extended periods during the shift.
• Capable of lifting and carrying up to 35 pounds independently and using lifting devices for heavier tools or assemblies.
• Good hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills required for precise handling of patterns and tools.
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and work in various postures as needed to set up machines and inspect parts.
• Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to wax materials, heat, noise, and moving equipment.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Prior experience in wax injection, molding, or manufacturing preferred but not required; on-the-job training provided.
• Ability to perform basic math calculations and interpret written instructions.
• Familiarity with precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers.
• Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
• Physical ability to lift up to 35 lbs. and perform essential job functions.
