Job Description

The Group: Morningstar's Analytics group creates data-driven analytics designed to help investors and Morningstar achieve better outcomes by making better decisions. We utilize statistical rigor and large data sets to inform the methodologies we develop. Our research encompasses hundreds of thousands of securities within a large breadth of asset classes including equities, fixed income, structured credit, and funds. Morningstar is one of the largest independent sources of fund, equity, and credit data and research in the world, and our advocacy for investors' interests is the foundation of our company.

The Role:

As an Quantitative Research Manager, you will guide a team of quantitative analysts in pioneering research initiatives that enhance fixed income analytics at both the security and portfolio level. Your work will focus on developing innovative solutions to bond and derivative analytics that inform portfolio construction, risk management, and performance attribution for our clients.

A successful candidate will combine expertise in fixed income markets with proven leadership and delivery skills. They will excel in communication and collaboration, possess a rigorous quantitative mindset, and demonstrate a strong grasp of finance and the global investing landscape.

This position is based in our Chicago, New York, or Toronto offices.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of quantitative analysts, fostering a collaborative and innovative research culture.
  • Direct research initiatives in fixed income and derivative analytics at both the security and portfolio level, with applications to portfolio analysis, risk and performance attribution.
  • Drive methodological innovation in areas such as risk management and attribution frameworks, ensuring research translates into actionable analytics that support portfolio construction and risk management.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of developments in global fixed income markets and quantitative finance to inform the research agenda.
  • Partner with product and technology teams to ensure research outputs evolve into scalable, client-facing solutions.
  • Represent the team's research to internal and external stakeholders, providing subject matter expertise on fixed income analytics.

Requirements:

  • Strong background in fixed income markets, with knowledge of bond pricing, credit risk, interest rate derivatives, and portfolio analytics.
  • Strong experience with Python, AWS and various data storage, big data technology and streaming data processing.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills. Ability to create and promote a culture of excellence and innovation.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple research and development projects simultaneously, applying strong project management practices (e.g., Agile) to ensure timely delivery of high-quality analytics solutions.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in quantitative research
  • A bachelor's degree in quantitative or financial discipline (Masters or higher is desirable)

Total Cash Compensation Range

$143,250.00 - 257,850.00 USD Annual

Inclusive of annual base salary and target incentive
