HJF is seeking a Financial Analyst to support the VHA Airborne Hazards and Burn Pits Center of Excellence (AHBPCE). This role is critical in providing financial planning, analysis, and reporting that guide strategic decisions for resource allocation, program planning, and operational effectiveness. The Financial Analyst will prepare reports, track expenses, conduct financial modeling, and provide data-driven recommendations to senior leadership.

This position will be in support of the New Jersey War Related Illness and Injury Study Center (NJ WRIISC) and it's sub-centers, the VHA Airborne Hazards and Burn Pits Center of Excellence (AHBPCE), and Exposure-Related Care Transformation (EXPRT) Center. Research activities broadly cover post-deployment health conditions attributable to military environmental exposures. NJ VA WRIISC is a national post-deployment health resource for the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). WRIISC develops and provides post-deployment health expertise to Veterans and their health care providers through research activities as well as through its specialty clinical programs, education, and risk communication.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.



  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Conduct variance analysis comparing actual performance against budget/forecast, highlighting trends and deviations.
  • Assist in financial projections and forecasts to support program goals.
  • Develop financial models to assess funding trends, cost-saving initiatives, and long-term resource planning.
  • Conduct analyses to evaluate profitability, cost structures, and efficiency of program operations.
  • Support strategic decision-making with scenario-based financial insights.
  • Ensure adherence to financial policies, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support financial audits and respond to auditor inquiries.
  • Identify and mitigate potential financial risks.
  • Present financial data in clear, concise formats to leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Act as a resource for cross-functional teams, providing financial expertise to support projects.
  • Recommend enhancements to financial systems, tools, and processes to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Continuously evaluate workflows to identify and implement improvements.
  • Maintain required VHA training, including VA Privacy, Security Awareness, and Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) certification.



Education and Experience



  • Bachelor's Degree in a Business related field
  • At least one (1) year of professional experience in financial analysis, purchasing, or expense tracking
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to synthesize complex data
  • Proficiency in financial reporting, forecasting, and modeling


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex financial data to both technical and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of spreadsheet software.
  • Ability to structure and perform sophisticated financial projections and analyses.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to assimilate detailed information into the bigger picture.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with strong focus on customer service
  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Clearance, including background check and drug screening.


Physical Capabilities



  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.


Work Environment



  • This position will take place primarily in a office setting.


Compensation



  • The annual salary range for this position is $64,200-$109,200. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
