Compensation: $39.00 - $39.00 /hourly

Tessera is seeking a highly skilled and dependable Pipefitter Lead to support mission-critical infrastructure at USAFA. This role serves as a technical lead in the field, guiding pipefitting tasks and ensuring safe, efficient, and code-compliant installation, maintenance, and repair of piping systems. The Pipefitter Lead works hands-on across water, gas, steam, drainage, compressed air, and fire suppression systems across the installation, while setting the standard for quality, safety, and professionalism.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Lay out and measure pipe positions from drawings and specifications
  • Cut, thread, bend, and assemble pipe using hand tools, torches, and pipe machines
  • Install and repair valves, fittings, and fixtures for water, gas, steam, and drainage systems
  • Perform standard tests to verify system integrity and compliance
  • Install and maintain plumbing fixtures (e.g., sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, dishwashers)
  • Maintain and repair systems by replacing washers, mending burst pipes, and clearing blockages
  • Support fire suppression systems; ensure compliance with NFPA codes and backflow prevention standards
  • Read and interpret building plans, work drawings, and technical maps
  • Maintain accurate records of preventive maintenance and repairs
  • Operate and maintain tools and equipment safely
  • Perform duties in confined spaces, adverse weather, and uneven terrain

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of plumbing experience; Journeyman/Master preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of pipefitting experience
  • Certified in backflow prevention to ensure system safety and compliance
  • Valid plumbing certifications one or more: American Society of Sanitary Engineering (ASSE), American Backflow Prevention Association (ABPA), or Association of Boards of Certification (ABC)
  • Working knowledge of NFPA codes 13, 70, 72, and 101 relevant to fire protection and safety standards
  • Fire suppression system experience preferred
  • Experience with boiler systems, cooling towers, HVAC piping, and high/low pressure steam systems

  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.
  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.
  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.
