Essential Job Duties |
Will teach
ELM 310 - Children's Thinking and Additive Reasoning,
ELM 410 - Children's Thinking and Multiplicative Reasoning,
ELM 574 - Methods of Teaching Mathematics in the Elementary Classroom for Initial License, and
ECI 709 - Seminar on Conducting Research in
STEM Education. Establish and maintain a scholarly research, publication, and grant-writing record on mathematics teaching and/or learning in the elementary grades. Advise undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students. Recruit and mentor graduate students in research. Provide outreach and service for Department and College initiatives, especially for underserved communities and high-needs areas. Contribute to program design, development, and evaluation at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. May be able to work from home on occasion with supervisor approval, but some in-person work on a regular weekly basis is required. |

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
PhD in Mathematics Education or related. Demonstrated coursework or experience with: teaching of elementary mathematics methods, including the design and facilitation of activities to develop prospective elementary teachers' knowledge of research describing children's understanding of counting principles, problem type frameworks, progressions to students' problem-solving strategies, and student-centered activities to develop children's understanding of measurement, statistics & probability, and geometry; facilitating cycles of enactment and investigation, in which prospective elementary-school teachers first experience, then plan for, teach, and reflect on their own teaching of student-centered mathematics lessons; classroom video to support prospective teachers in learning to attend to, interpret, and develop students' mathematical thinking;
building and writing theoretical frameworks to ground and guide education research studies, as well as preparing doctoral students to craft and use their own theoretical frameworks to ground and guide their research studies; collecting and using classroom video data in teacher professional development initiatives, including self-captured video to support teachers in analyzing, learning about, and developing their teaching practice; and conducting qualitative data analysis, including the development and use of coding frameworks, assessment of inter-rater reliability, the identification and reporting of themes in coded data, and provision of training to graduate students with these research skills
