Brief Summary of Job Duties: Under the direct supervision of the Personnel Manager, the Front House Personnel Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Personnel Manager in all aspects of hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision of all student employees.

Required Qualifications:

Work Experience

  • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience.
  • Ability to utilize computers, learn new software, and work with Microsoft Word.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills including ability to actively listen and effectively convey information, policy and procedures both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively work in a high volume operation with continuous personnel actions.
  • Ability to effectively work with other managers and full time staff as a team.
  • Or Equivalent combination of education and experience

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

Employee & Meal Supervision - 40 %

  • Supervises service areas during meal hours ensuring that employees are providing excellent customer service and are working efficiently and effectively. Ensures that students eat in a clean and sanitary dining environment.
  • Follows existing departmental and university guidelines and policies where applicable.
  • Facilitates teamwork and a team spirit among all staff and managers within dining services.
  • Instills in staff the importance of each member's contribution to the dining services team.
  • Helps conduct written performance evaluations of all student supervisors and student cooks' helpers. Schedules oral evaluations between employees and Personnel Manager.
  • Gives daily feedback to student supervisors and student employees.
  • Brings all student issues (disciplinary or other) to the notice of the Personnel Manager and assists in working to resolve these issues.

Scheduling - 25 %

  • In conjunction with the Personnel Manager, prepares a regular schedule before each quarter begins, including the preparation of and monitoring of all Final's Week schedules and any other special schedules.
  • Covers all open/unfilled shifts and finds any extra kitchen help on a daily basis or as needed.
  • Organizes bi-monthly Supervisor Meetings and types up notes taken from those meetings.

Hiring & Training - 25 %

  • Assists the Personnel Manager with interviewing, hiring, and terminating student employees. Also assists in the orientation and training of new student employees.
  • Assists in the selection of student employees for advanced positions (cooks, supervisors, and student managers) and helps to update the promotion process when necessary.
  • Tracks all promoted positions and updates promotion list as necessary.
  • Organizes training sessions for all newly promoted employees to Dining Room advanced positions. Ensures that all promoted students follow through with training in a timely manner.
  • Organizes the Supervisor promotion process and helps with the selection of new Supervisors, as well as organizing all Supervisor training.

Back Up Manager - 10 %

  • Manager on duty, in the absence of the Personnel and Production Managers
  • Coordinates part-time employees in the opening and closing of the building during shut-down periods, including the coordination of special clean-up crews
  • Coordinates the judicial process regarding misconduct in the dining room.
  • Schedules additional help as needed and coordinates the selection, training, and supervision of any special program supervisors as needed (i.e. concessions, summer catering, etc.).
  • Supervises personnel to ensure the highest quality of recipe preparation and presentation.
  • Reviews kitchen departments to see that adequate safety and sanitation standards are being met.
  • Writes work orders and coordinates work projects with maintenance departments.
  • Works to minimize the waste of food, equipment, and cleaning products.
  • Helps coordinate portion control.
  • Helps train new employees and retrain current employees in efficient work methods.
  • Ensures that all items personally received are counted, weighed, and examined for desired specifications.
  • Helps coordinate the storage of food, equipment, and cleaning supplies.
  • Keeps areas well organized for easy access.
  • Helps supervise rotation of stock.
