TSC is seeking a Mechanical Engineer III in Huntsville, AL. This position supports the TSC Products Engineering Solutions (PES).

Responsibilities:

This position requires a flexible individual with experience in quick-turn electro-mechanical development of product concepts to working prototypes within limited timelines & guidance. The ideal candidate:

  • Concept Development & Prototyping
    • Conceive, design, and fabricate rapid proof-of-concept prototypes under limited timelines and guidance
    • Apply ingenuity and hands-on prototyping methods to support technology demonstration events
  • Mechanical Design & Analysis
    • Lead design of complex electro-mechanical systems, applying knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, vibration, EMI/RFI, and environmental survivability
    • Perform structural and thermal assessments to ensure robust and manufacturable designs
    • Generate, review, and release detailed drawings and documentation in compliance with company and contractual requirements
  • Program Execution & Coordination
    • Estimate manpower, materials, and schedule requirements; support program management in planning and execution
    • Collaborate directly with industry partners to coordinate integration of prototypes into host platforms
    • Work with suppliers, fabricators, and vendors to improve manufacturability, solicit quotes, and control costs
  • Integration & Testing
    • Partner with electrical/RF engineers and technicians in the fabrication, installation, and troubleshooting of integrated systems
    • Evaluate operational systems, diagnose malfunctions, and recommend or implement design modifications
  • Transition to Production
    • Support the transition of successful prototypes into volume manufacturing, applying DFM/DFA best practices
    • Provide technical guidance to drafters, junior engineers, and technicians during product realization
  • Documentation & Reporting
    • Prepare technical reports, test plans, evaluation summaries, and user documentation with recommendations and conclusions
    • Maintain accurate design and configuration control records throughout the product lifecycle

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) + 5-7 years of experience OR Masters of Mechanical Engineering + 3-5 years of experience
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks or equivalent) for complex part/assembly design and drawing creation
  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical design for electronics packaging, including thermal, structural, and environmental considerations
  • Knowledge of engineering fundamentals including thermodynamics, heat transfer, vibration, and structural mechanics
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (electrical/RF engineers, technicians, suppliers, fabricators) to deliver integrated solutions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for reports, presentations, and technical documentation
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Electronics packaging design expert in RF, fiber-optic, defense, power systems, or digital electronics field
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks Simulation (FEA/thermal) or equivalent analysis tools
  • Experience with design for manufacturability/assembly (DFM/DFA) and familiarity with high-volume production transitions
  • Hands-on prototyping and troubleshooting skills, with ability to lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
  • Familiarity with EMI/RFI mitigation techniques and environmental survivability requirements (MIL-STD standards, thermal cycling, vibration, etc.)
  • Knowledge of GD&T and ASME Y14.5 drawing standards
  • Supplier management experience including quoting, cost analysis, and design-for-cost considerations
  • Prior defense, aerospace, or unmanned platform integration experience
