Due to our continued growth, we are seeking a motivated and growth-oriented person to join our team as a System Engineer at our Columbus, MN location. This position is exempt, full-time, and reports to the VP of Technology.

JOB SUMMARY

The Systems Engineer supports the testing, integration, and deployment of AI-enabled devices and cloud services used in mobile security camera trailers and work site security applications. This role is hands-on and cross-disciplinary, with primary responsibilities including AI testing (prompt development and results analysis), device integration, and system troubleshooting. The position involves working with hardware, networking, and cloud platforms to ensure the performance and reliability of solar-powered security solutions. It provides exposure to AI technologies, IoT devices, and real-world security applications while contributing to the advancement of the organization's security solutions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Assist with AI and machine learning testing, including writing prompts, analyzing system responses, and reporting results.


  • Support the integration and evaluation of cameras, sensors, IoT devices, and cloud-based analytics.


  • Conduct functional and performance testing of AI-driven video analytics and reporting tools.


  • Help diagnose and troubleshoot modem and GPS enabled hardware, software, and networking issues in field-deployed systems.


  • Support system documentation, test plans, and results tracking.


  • Collaborate with senior engineers on solar-powered system integration (PV, batteries, networked power systems).


  • Provide hands-on support for prototype builds, production testing, and customer deployments.


  • Stay current with new technologies in AI, IoT, and cloud services relevant to mobile security.


  • Other duties as assigned in support of the engineering team.


COMPETENCIES



  • Strong interest in AI systems, cloud platforms, and IoT devices.


  • Ability to write and refine AI prompts and test scripts.


  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail for results analysis and reporting.


  • Basic knowledge of wired/wireless networking (LTE, Wi-Fi, IP cameras).


  • Familiarity with hardware troubleshooting and hands-on system support.


  • Eagerness to learn, take direction, and contribute in a team environment.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Software, Applied Sciences or equivalent experience in Data Analytics.


  • Experience: 1-3 years of professional engineering work in area of discipline related to AI, IoT, networking, or embedded systems.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Experience with control box electrical design, solar-battery power management on 12V-48V systems


  • Network communications and security


  • Familiarity with AI/ML tools or APIs


  • Hands-on experience with IP networking and connected devices.


  • Interest or background in security, surveillance, or field-deployed systems.


Physical and Mental Demands

The System Engineer is predominantly an office-based role. The primary physical and mental demands include:



  • Remains in a stationary position (sitting or standing) 50% of the time.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment, such as a scanner, copy machine and printer.
  • Communicates with others in their area of expertise, both internally and externally. Exchanges accurate information in these situations.
  • Frequently moves equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Occasionally, the individual in this position will need to stand, reach, bend, stoop, and kneel.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include normal vision.
  • The office environment will have normal lighting and climate control tolerances.
  • Additionally, the office setting will have moderate noise exposure, i.e. business offices with computers, printers, light traffic.
  • Travel conditions may involve being in an aircraft or automobile for extended periods of time.
  • Work is performed in the business office at a minimum of 40 hours a week.
