Pay Range: $178,770 - $226,668 Annually

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.


Job Description

The Environment, Safety, and Health (ES&H) Directorate has an opening for aManagement Systems Lead. ES&H is a multi-discipline directorate with 100+ complex and dynamic ES&H programs that we manage for the Laboratory, a $95+M budget, and more than 450 employees.

You will lead the integration and optimization of ES&H management systems (ISMS, 14001, and 45001) and its quality program. This role is central to ensuring the successful delivery of ES&H commitments to Laboratory stakeholders and fostering a culture of continuous improvement across the organization. This position offers the opportunity to influence strategic decision-making, mentor diverse personnel and teams, and work closely with ES&H senior leadership, Program subject matter experts (SMEs), programmatic customers, other Laboratory partner organizations, including Department of Energy (DOE) oversight.

This position may offer a hybrid schedule, which includes the flexibility to work from home one or moredays per week, after a probationary period. The specifics of the hybrid schedule, including the exact number of days required in the office and virtual work options may vary based on the needs of the team and the organization.

You will

  • Act as the focal point for the ES&H Directorate management systems for implementation, validation, tracking/monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Represent ES&H as the Directorate Quality Manager responsible for facilitating the integration and assessment of institutional requirements within ES&H policies and practices.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to ES&H staff, ensuring a standard of high-level project planning, stakeholder engagement, execution, and appropriate controlling/monitoring of ES&H management systems.
  • Utilize quantitative and qualitative analysis to develop and improve processes, identifying opportunities for consistent and effective implementation.
  • Train and mentor ES&H managers, at various levels, and SMEs to instill a culture of project discipline and to integrate management systems into daily operations and strategic planning.
  • Develop and deliver briefings to the ES&H Senior Leadership Team, Office of Laboratory Oversight - Mission Assurance, and other senior level Laboratory leadership regarding the status of ES&H management systems.
  • Represent ES&H on various advisory and working group meetings/committees related to management systems.
  • Support the development, negotiation, and reporting of performance to strategic plans in collaboration with senior leadership and DOE oversight.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physical science, ES&H, or other related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and related technical experience.
  • Substantial technical leadership experience which required interactions with senior management and external regulatory organizations and/or accreditation bodies.
  • Proven ability to lead highly complex, high-impact technical efforts, and to facilitate change and influence outcomes without formal authority.
  • Substantial experience applying project management principles and problem-solving, conflict resolution, persuasion, negotiation, and consensus-building skills and independent judgement to ensure milestones and deliverables are met.
  • Proficiency using quantitative and qualitative analysis to evaluate system and/or program health.
  • Ability to analyze and distill highly complex issues to provide the appropriate context, develop innovative approaches and solutions, and effectively communicate across all levels of an organization to gain understanding and necessary support.
  • Proficient in generating, and leveraging, successful and effective working relationships with a broad cross-section of management, technical, and administrative personnel.
  • Extensive experience mentoring various levels of staff, including technicians, engineers, and managers on management systems.
  • Expert verbal and written communication, facilitation, collaboration, and presentation skills to effectively present, explain, and advise senior leadership and external regulators, including clear executive briefings and workable action plans.

Qualifications We Desire

  • ISO Lead Auditor Certification for 9001, 14001, and 45001
  • Master's degree in engineering, physical science, ES&H, or other related technical field.
  • Experience utilizing lean six sigma continuous improvement, behavior-based safety, risk-management, and performance-based leadership principles.
  • Experience working at DOE or non-government hazardous facilities, ES&H, and/or work planning and control roles.

Security Clearance

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
