Internship Overview / Summary:

  • This role requires a self-driven, curious, and detail-oriented intern to join FNB enterprise data engineering and architecture technology team as Master Data Management (MDM) Developer -Intern. This internship role is ideal for raising college junior passionate about applying pipeline engineering techniques to solve real-world problems in financial services. It includes hands-on experience in managing and improving enterprise data assets that support customer, account, and product data across consumer and commercial banking platforms. The role focuses on reference data standardization, digital customer integration, and system data profiling to support data quality, compliance, and operational efficiency.

Internship Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of MDM solutions for customer, account, location, and product reference data.
  • Support data profiling activities to assess data quality, completeness, and consistency across banking systems.
  • Participate in integration efforts between digital banking platforms, core systems and MDM data to ensure accurate and unified customer records.
  • Help document metadata, data lineage, and business rules for master and reference data domains.
  • Collaborate with data stewards and business analysts to understand data requirements and usage patterns.
  • Contribute to data cleansing, deduplication, and enrichment processes using MDM tools or scripts.
  • Support the creation of dashboards or reports to visualize data profiling results and data quality metrics.
  • Engage in testing and validation of MDM workflows and data integration pipelines.
  • Participate in data quality assessments and remediation planning.
  • Learn and apply data governance principles in a regulated banking environment.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Internship Required Technical Qualifications:
    • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Computer Engineering or a related field.
    • Strong interest in data management, banking technology, and digital transformation.
    • Basic understanding of relational databases, data modeling, and SQL.
    • Familiarity with data integration concepts (ETL, APIs, etc.) and tools (SSIS, Informatica, Data Stage etc.)
    • Awareness ofAPI-based integrationand data exchange formats (e.g., JSON, XML) is a plus.
    • Understanding ofMDM principlessuch as golden records, survivorship rules, and data stewardship
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work in a secure, regulated environment with attention to data privacy and compliance.
  • Internship Required Soft Skills:
    • Analytical mindset- ability to identify patterns, anomalies, and improvement opportunities in data
    • Strong communication skills- able to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders clearly and concisely to present findings from data profiling exercises to data governance teams.
    • Team collaboration- comfortable working in cross-functional teams and contributing to group problem-solving to align reference MDM data (customer, product, etc.) across platforms.
    • Adaptability- open to learning new tools, methods, responding to changing project requirements and work across multiple data domains.
    • Attention to detail- meticulous in data handling, documentation, date model validation, identifying data anomalies and documenting remediation steps.
    • Time management- able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ethical mindset- understands the importance of fairness, transparency, and accountability in AI applications, especially in financial services.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Internship or academic project experience in data wrangling and data analytics.
  • Exposure to MDM concept and systems e.g. Tibco MDM, Informatica MDM, IBM InfoSphere, etc.)
  • Knowledge of SQL and experience working with relational databases.
  • Experience with Python, or data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Familiarity with of banking concepts such as KYC, customer onboarding, or account hierarchies
  • Understanding with data governance frameworks and compliance standards (e.g., BCBS 239, GDPR, GLBA).

Position Overview:

Primary Responsibilities:
Learn aggressively: Be open to new ideas and concepts, ask questions and be intellectually curious. Opportunities are based on assigned department, possible examples include organizational structures, business etiquette, interpersonal/conflict resolution/sales/negotiation skills, industry information, products and services and functional responsibilities for various Bank departments.

Analyze: Improve the quality of decision making by doing appropriate and thorough analysis. Potential examples are based on the department assigned but can include pricing decisions, financial analysis, qualitative analysis, credit risk mitigation, identifying borrowing needs, project timelines and marketing plans.

Communicate well: Deliver information in a clear, logical and effective manner. Convey information both in writing and orally. Flex style to effectively communicate in one-on-one, small group and large-group settings. Possible examples include business meetings, sales calls, training sessions, email communication and conference calls.

Display Teamwork: Work well with others to achieve group goals. Willing to leverage the experiences of members to generate improved results and maximum performance. Lead and follow with effectiveness. Willing to voice dissent and ask difficult questions. Listen, to learn. Examples include department or Intern projects.
