Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Supply Chain Manager leads all activities of the Purchasing Department. The incumbent is responsible for buying, selling, negotiating, and managing the flow of products as well as negotiating contracts and evaluating suppliers.

What does a Supply Chain Manager do?

  • Delivers cost metrics to management to demonstrate savings generated and advise on areas of potential savings.
  • Supports the consistent production flow, ensuring a steady supply of materials. Drives supply chain activities for product needs including demand planning, new product launch planning, supply planning, inventory planning. Manages inventory staff to achieve those goals.
  • Manages demand forecasts in planning system, engagement with Sales and Marketing to understand business/commercial goals/directions.
  • Tracks actual inventory to plans, root cause analysis and corrective action plans for variances, identification of slow-moving and obsolete inventory, implementation of cost reduction opportunities while ensuring no impact to customer service objectives, etc.
  • Determines starting safety stock requirements, coordination of product phase-in/phase-out with Product Team, scenario planning using spreadsheet/ERP analysis, etc.
  • Drives improvements to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including forecast accuracy, inventory entitlement, slow moving/obsolete.
  • Supports and influences business planning and financial planning processes and leverages Lean concepts and Six Sigma tools to develop and effectively implement advanced supply chain solutions, processes, and systems improvements.
  • Articulates points of view with senior leaders and executes plans when directed.
  • Establishes and thoroughly documents processes.
  • Collaborates and participates in every aspect of supply chain management and understands manufacturing operations to maintain a repeatable and reliable process cognizant of cost and risk implications for the business unit.
  • Evaluates logistics services providers with respect to purchasing to determine effectiveness. Suggests and implements changes to improve service levels, quote and coordinate inbound shipments, as necessary. Interacts and negotiates with providers as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, Business Administration, Manufacturing Technology, Logistics or 5-10 years of equivalent work experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
  • Experience in inventory management and flow through the system.
  • Experience in planning and executing purchasing strategies.
  • Experience managing and directing a small staff of employees.

Plant Environment - This position operates in a manufacturing setting and can be subject to extreme cold and hot temperatures; uneven walking surfaces with cords, tools, and other obstacles; intermittent loud noises; and dusty or dirty conditions. Required PPE includes hard hat (when required), safety glasses, earplugs, steel toe/composite boots, and fall protection.
