Electric Engineering Specialist/Technologist (31517011)

CEHE Major Underground Engineering - Pad Mount North

Summary:

Manages medium-sized projects from design through completion including preparation of plans, specifications, permits and contracts. Designs new or retrofits existing facilities and issue orders on electric distribution facilities for subdivisions, system improvements, and public improvement projects.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:



  • Creates and designs intermediate electric distribution facilities, transmission system designs, and support systems, including system protection.


  • Prepares project documents, including but not limited to: long range capacity plans, easements, permits, bid packages, contracts, relocation and letter agreements, red-line and green-line proposals, regulatory proposals for service area certification, and main replacement program documentation packets.


  • Prepares cost estimates, material specifications and schedules, system capacity and study modeling and analyses.


  • Prepares and submits minor construction drawings for facilities.


  • Prepares economic feasibility studies and makes customer contribution recommendations for new loads and system replacement work.


  • Provides design support to electric operations.


  • Prepares operational procedures to complete projects.


  • Communicates and coordinates with district employees, customers, and government agencies. when necessary where corrections need to be made or assisting them with a problem.



Education:



  • Requires an Engineering Technology Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.Additional Bachelor's degrees that will be considered, including but not limited to Bachelor of Science in Construction Science, Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university.


Experience:



  • Requires a minimum two (2) plus years of experience in electrical or civil engineering field performing technical engineering work, including calculations, design and interpretation of technical documents; preferably in gas/utility or power generation.
  • Able to make informed decisions, follow procedures and comply with policies based on the knowledge of the work and the services provided by CenterPoint Energy.


  • Able to prioritize and schedule tasks, pay attention to detail and demonstrate good organizational skills.
  • Able to work and participate successfully in a team environment to accomplish assignments.
  • Able to work well with both technical and non-technical personnel to gather and exchange information, resolve issues, plan activities and meet or exceed objectives.


  • Able to manage time effectively, handle multiple tasks and priorities, operate under general direction, develop own work methods as required yet follow standard procedures and determine when management is to be consulted on unusual situations.
  • Able to communicate effectively, in oral and written form, with co-workers, customers, vendors and the community.
  • Able to exercise discretion, tact and good judgment in dealing with co-workers, customers, vendors and the community.
  • Able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, listening ability and business acumen to communicate effectively with co-workers, customers, vendors and the community.
  • Able to use a personal computer (database, spreadsheet and word processing) for technical engineering applications, SAP, ProjectWise, and MicroStation (or Auto CAD).
  • Able to provide and maintain a valid state driver's license and safe driving record.
  • Able to comply with all company driver safety policy requirements.
