USC's School of Cinematic Arts Office of Student Services is seeking a Senior Academic Advisor to join its team. Specifically, this position will provide academic advising to undergraduate students majoring and minoring within the Interactive Media and Games Division which includes Game Development and Interactive Design, Game Art, and Themed Entertainment. The position will also coordinate and provide leadership for student support programs for their student population and serve as a liaison between student and pertinent university resources. They will oversee enrollment and clearance processing for undergraduate courses within the Interactive Media and Games Division.

In their advising role, the Senior Academic Advisor is committed to the overall success of their assigned undergraduate students, They help students understand degree and minor requirements; develop, cultivate, and transform academic goals and educational plans; understand academic policies and procedures; select majors and minors; explore curricular and co-curricular opportunities (i.e., research, study abroad, service learning, etc.); integrate career development opportunities, address concerns and challenges that impact academic success; and connect with university resources. Additionally, they will provide support for the Office of Students Services in disseminating information to our student body, event planning, program coordination, and various initiatives including admissions.

Duties for this position may include:

  • Provide academic advising for undergraduate students. Specifically advise students on degree or minor requirements, curriculum, course selection, transfer credit evaluation, and degree related opportunities (i.e. research, study abroad, internships, etc.).
  • Advises students on degree tracks as related to professional goals, providing career information where appropriate through referrals to faculty and SCA Industry Relations.
  • Aide in the retention and graduation of major students through effective advisement practices.
  • Monitor student performance, degree progress, and records.
  • Prepare course plans (semester and yearly).
  • Evaluate student problems (academic, personal, or administrative) and refer students to the appropriate student support services.
  • Stay abreast on major curriculum, course offerings, and department related opportunities.
  • Provide departmental related reports pertaining to enrollment, registration, retention, and graduation.
  • Assess targeted student needs and recommends programs or services. Execute student engagement programs, academic support and advisement services and events such as orientation, new student welcome, and support programs for advising population.
  • Maintain knowledge on university related policies and procedures pertaining to curriculum, transfer credit, degree requirements, course evaluations, petitions, and other student services.
  • Represent department through events and programs such as recruitment and conversion events and programming.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with departmental faculty and administration.
  • Interface with parents as needed and provide resources to facilitate problem resolution.
  • Maintain professional knowledge through participation in associations, committees, workshops, and other means of networking.
  • Other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves to the right to add or change duties at any time.

The hourly range for this position is $34.04-$38.99.
