As part of Risk Management, you'll play a pivotal role in safeguarding New York Life's policy owners. By identifying, analyzing, and mitigating potential risks, you contribute to three crucial areas: strengthening the company's defenses, informing sound business decisions, and advancing risk capabilities across the organization. Your expertise empowers informed risk-taking, fostering sustainable growth and protecting the financial security of millions of policy owners.

Role Overview

The CVP, AI Risk Lead will help execute New York Life's enterprise AI governance strategy. This role will be responsible for leading risk evaluations, monitoring the AI inventory, and driving the implementation of governance policies and procedures. Working closely with legal, risk, compliance, and AI & Data teams, this individual will ensure that AI initiatives align with regulatory expectations and responsible AI principles. What You'll Do

  • Evaluate AI use cases in collaboration with legal, risk, compliance, and AI & Data SMEs to ensure alignment with the Responsible AI Use framework, ensuring a risk-based approach that supports business outcomes through responsible AI use.
  • Maintain and monitor the enterprise AI inventory and risk governance tools, ensuring traceability, accuracy, and alignment with governance standards.
  • Monitor AI-related regulatory trends and help prepare for regulatory supervision
  • Continuously enhance the AI risk governance framework, controls, policies, and procedures to adapt to evolving regulations and technologies
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of Responsible AI training and usage guidelines to ensure AI usage at all levels is aligned with our guiding principles.
  • Facilitate and lead cross-functional governance meetings, business reviews, and leadership briefings on AI risk and emerging issues.
  • Support enterprise readiness for AI-related regulatory reviews and supervision.
  • Provide mentorship to junior team members and contribute to developing AI risk expertise across the team.

What You'll Bring

Required Skills:

  • 7+ years of experience in artificial intelligence, risk, privacy, compliance, information security, data science, or related discipline; financial or insurance industry experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as risk management, computer science, data science, or information systems preferred. Advanced degrees or certifications in AI governance, compliance, model governance, or technology risk are preferred.
  • Deep understanding of model performance measurement metrics, with experience applying risk mitigation techniques like robustness testing, fairness assessments, and explainability tools.
  • A strong understanding of AI risk governance standards, with a track record oftranslating complex regulations into effective governance procedures.
  • Strategic and analytical thinker with strong communication and influencing skills, including experience drafting policy and presenting to leadership.
  • High level of analytical rigor and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess technical and business risks and lead cross-functional initiatives, and manage high-impact deliverables in a dynamic environment
  • Commitment to ongoing learning in the evolving AI risk landscape.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as NIST AI RMF and ISO 23894, and experience supporting compliance training, model intake, and risk tracking tools.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., AIGP, CIPP, CIPM, CIPT, AIRMP, CGRC, CISSP) strongly preferred.

Pay Transparency

Salary Range:$145,000 - $165,000

Overtime eligible:Exempt

Discretionary bonus eligible:Yes

Sales bonus eligible:No

Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
