Vice President, Advanced Practice Providers

Job Overview:

The Vice President, Advanced Practice Providers develops and manages the overall strategy and infrastructure of utilization for the APP workforce across the RWJBH network and diverse sites of service to ensure clinical competency, top of license practice, and exceptional outcomes. The VP, Advanced Practice Providers serves as the clinical expert and administrative leader responsible for enhancing and advancing the role of advanced practice nurses and physician assistants.

The Vice President, Advanced Practice Providers serves as an expert resource and creates an environment that promotes excellence in evidence-based, fiscally responsible clinical care with an emphasis on quality, safety, and patient experience while ensuring clinical practice and educational standards are upheld and cultivated through professional development for all RWJBH Advanced Practice Providers.

Reports to:

  • The Vice President, Advanced Practice Providers reports directly to the System Chief Medical and Quality Officer, RWJBarnabas Health.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant studies required
  • Doctorate in Nursing Practice DNP or applicable Doctorate for Physician Assistants e.g., DMSc, PhD, DHA, etc. preferred
  • Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License with Advanced Practice Nurse Certification or Physician Assistant License
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a leadership role within healthcare, with at least 5 years of experience in APP leadership
  • Proven track record of success in developing and implementing strategic initiatives
  • Strong understanding of the healthcare industry and the role of APPs
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive APP strategy that aligns with the organization's overall goals and objectives.
  • Ensure that all APP staff are performing to the top of their license, providing them with the support and resources they need to be successful
  • Collaborate with other senior leaders across the organization to ensure that APPs are appropriately integrated into all aspects of patient care
  • Advocate for APPs within the organization and the broader healthcare community
  • Remain current on the latest industry trends and best practices in all facets of APP workforce management and care delivery
  • Oversee the APP Collaborative, a forum for APPs to share best practices, collaborate on projects, and advocate for their profession
  • Collaborate with Central Medical Staff Office leadership to harmonize privileging, Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation OPPE and Focused Professional Practice Evaluation FPPE standards for APPs in the health system
  • Optimize compliant revenue capture for APP services, ensuring that the organization is optimizing reimbursement for the services provided by APPs
  • Participate in the ongoing review and implementation of an APP compensation strategy.
  • Collaborate with the professional recruitment and human resources teams for onboarding, development, and retention of APPs, ensuring that RWJBH has a highly qualified and engaged workforce
  • Harmonize job descriptions and roles and responsibilities of NP/PA clinicians/leads/managers in collaboration with physician and nursing leadership
  • Collaboratively oversee the education and advancement of the APP profession within the organization, including post-graduate programs, ensuring that APPs have the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge and advance their careers
  • Lead and manage a team of APP directors, managers, and clinical site leads, providing them with the support and resources they need to be successful
  • Adhere to RWJBH organizational values, competencies and credo
