Position Overview: HVAC Complex Building Controls Engineer

Join a team where innovation meets precision. As a Building Controls Engineer at Johnson Controls, you'll be at the forefront of designing and delivering intelligent building systems that drive performance, efficiency, and sustainability. From HVAC automation to integrated low-voltage subsystems, your expertise will shape environments where technology and comfort converge.

What You'll Do

Under general direction, you'll lead the design, configuration, and operation of advanced building control systems-including HVAC, lighting, nurse call, and data networks-to meet project goals and exceed customer expectations.

You'll be the technical backbone of our field teams, ensuring high-quality, timely, and efficient designs. Your work will span from software development and commissioning to troubleshooting and client training.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Engineer sophisticated HVAC control systems using contract documents as your blueprint. Develop flow diagrams, sequences of operation, BOMs, network layouts, and electrical schematics.

  • Develop and test custom software programs to ensure seamless system performance aligned with project intent.

  • Produce detailed submittals and installation drawings to guide field teams and inform clients and consultants.

  • Manage material selection and logistics, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with project schedules.

  • Coordinate factory-mounted controls and oversee integration to meet production and installation timelines.

  • Commission and validate system functionality, collaborating with subcontractors and trades to resolve issues and optimize performance.

  • Document field changes and support the creation of accurate as-built drawings and final software packages.

  • Deliver hands-on training to owners/operators, empowering them to manage their building systems confidently.

  • Participate in project release meetings, contributing technical insights and ensuring smooth handoffs.

  • Apply value engineering principles to deliver cost-effective solutions without compromising quality.

  • Mentor junior design assistants, sharing knowledge and elevating team performance.

  • Champion safety standards, prioritizing the well-being of employees and subcontractors.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field)

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in HVAC or building automation systems

  • Strong understanding of control theory, automatic temperature controls, and building subsystems

  • Proven experience integrating low-voltage systems using protocols like BACnet, LON, or Modbus

  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders

  • Advanced proficiency in CAD tools, network design, and software programming

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $64,400.00 - 80,500.00 USD Annual. (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)This position includes a competitive benefits package.
