Your Opportunity

As our Senior Director, Revenue, you'll be a key member of the leadership team responsible for revenue assurance, accounting and reporting, revenue operations, billing operations, accounts receivable and cash collection, as well as, SOX compliance. This senior leader will set the strategic direction for New Relic's revenue organization and will be a highly visible presence in commercial and go-to-market decision making. You'll play a pivotal role in supporting New Relic's continued track record of strong revenue growth and in driving a scalable and efficient operation. You'll also play a key role in driving revenue policy making decisions and in overseeing the maintenance, improvement, and implementation (if required) of New Relic's billing and revenue recognition systems/platforms.

This role requires deep technical expertise and the ability to solve complex problems across diverse subject areas. This strategic, yet hands-on role, will report to the Global Controller and work closely with the FP&A team, deal management, legal, and key external partners.You'll be a key player in driving the financial success of the organization by building - and sustaining - a world-class finance team.


What You'll Do

  • Set direction, develop and drive strategic plans and objectives for the revenue organization.
  • Lead and guide a diverse team - Billing, Collections, Revenue Accounting, Revenue Systems
  • Drive the ongoing maturation and automation of billing and revenue systems, processes and teams within the revenue organization emphasizing standard processes.
  • Work with team to develop understanding/application of ASC 606 and ASC 340-40
  • Review and document complex revenue arrangements, particularly related to projects, software sales, and revenue policies for new product initiatives.
  • Develop an excellent working relationship with the sales organization and establish yourself as a highly visible and trusted advisor to sales on complex contract negotiations, commercial and go-to-market decisions.
  • Develop and maintain excellent collaborative working relationships with other teams including, Engineering, Product, Sales Operations, Legal, FP&A, IT, Accounting and Tax.
  • Ensure Revenue close is met on time and with accuracy
  • Work with external auditors, present significant item updates, supporting documentation for the quarterly reviews and year-end audits.
  • Provide frequent education to the business on complex revenue matters including ASC 606 and provide highly visible communications to the executive team.
  • Ensure robust and effective control environment and successful SOX compliance.
  • Develop a culture of continuous improvement in the revenue function and support the culture of New Relic, providing assistance and direction as required to improve effectiveness and overall performance
  • Lead, retain, and develop a high performing revenue team and support their growth and professional development


Your Qualifications

Must-have:



  • Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting including 8+ years in revenue leadership roles at a combination of public companies and/or public accounting firms.
  • CPA with a deep understanding of US GAAP (ASC 606 and ASC 340-40) and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience working with the intersection of consumption and subscription SaaS environments.
  • Mastery understanding of Zuora Billing including charging and rating features and concepts, Zuora RevPro, and Netsuite.
  • Provide sound strategic and risk management insights, while efficiently managing day to day activities to ensure compliance.
  • Strong project management skills encompassing attention to detail and ability to prioritize and lead high priority initiatives on concurrent timelines.
  • Exemplary interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills as demonstrated by the ability to land complex concepts across multiple audiences.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally to scale processes and support business needs.
  • Proven people manager with a track record of building successful teams.
  • Experience implementing and managing financial systems in a SaaS environment (e.g., Billing, Rev Rec, ERP, etc.).
  • Ability to both see the big picture and dive into the details.


Nice-to-have:



  • Experience working with an accounting and revenue organization of similar size
  • Experience working with big data/data driven environments
  • Experience in a consumption business (data center or renewable solar energy)

The pay range below represents a reasonable estimate of the salary for the listed position. This role is eligible for a corporate bonus plan. Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on job-related factors such as an applicant's skills, qualifications, and experience.
