About the Role:
Purpose:
Responsible for monitoring industry trends, analyzing those trends and converting that information into quick, concise, well-written commentary. This individual will also utilize market intelligence to create models and presentations informing senior leadership of production, demand, and pricing forecasts.
Reports to: VP Gas - LA LNG
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain models to forecast U.S. natural gas production, demand, and prices to inform the strategy forgas procurement and hedging activity
- Provide real-time market updates to the trading team. This includes price movements, trade-flows, trading behaviour, regulatory developments and competitor behaviour that impact the gas markets.
- Monitor key trends and events in North American natural gas markets, including competitive intelligence, M&A activity, and policy/regulatory changes that impact natural gas fundamentals
- Analyze and identify Mark-to-market P&L and exposure drivers of various trading books.
- Daily analysis of the trading positions, on an aggregate portfolio basis down to the trading portfolio level
- Provide explanation and commentary for changes to Exposure and P&L profile e.g. financial impact and risk exposure analysis of new strategies, activities, or transactions.
- Ensure daily data integrity, validate exposures, and reconcile data inconsistencies with responsible traders.
- Support traders with any hedging requirements. This includes assessing any implication of changes to future physical deliveries, report and discuss impact of hedging strategies.
- Provide economic analysis for trading opportunity evaluation.
- Analyze US Gas using pipeline flow tracking, LNG plant feedgas profiles, arbitrage economics and industry publications.
- Develop and maintain theUS gas Supply and Demand balances to formulate forward-looking views of key market developments and their impact on natural gas and LNG markets.
Skills & Experience:
- Be able to demonstrate excellent analytical skills and inquisitive mind for trading.
- Be able to demonstrate initiative, tenacity and drive for continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to validate and relate exposure and P&L results to commodity market drivers.
- Proficient with Excel formulas, pivot table functionality, and trading database applications.
- Experience with using trade capture systems, preferably Aspect.
- Possess strong organizational, communication, and time management skill is critical.
- Demonstrates inclusive, collaborative work behaviours and supports, listens, and respects the diversity and value of ideas from others.
Qualifications
- 3-5+ years' relevant experience working in energy trading with a strong understanding of commodity trading, preferably in LNG markets.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting Knowledge and understanding of financial and physical trading instruments
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.), Adobe Acrobat, SharePoint, etc.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
