Position Summary

Proactively provide strategic guidance, oversee critical work planning, and manage communication and supervision of power quality and voltage support specialists. This includes staying current with industry advancements in power quality to monitoring, analyzing, and evaluating the health of the electrical distribution system. Additionally, create opportunities for knowledge transfer with customers on energy consumption, protection, and best practices for electrical power usage. In addition, provides support to enhance system reliability through technical and analytical expertise, offering data-driven insights. Assists with the collection, analysis, and reporting of power quality and reliability metrics, identifying performance trends, and supports initiatives aimed at improving service continuity and grid performance for customers. This position collaborates with engineers, field personnel, and cross-functional teams to ensure the accuracy and value of reliability data while helping implement strategies that drive long-term improvements. This role also contributes to the development of tools, dashboards, and key performance indicators to support organizational goals and regulatory reporting.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provide support, advice, and recommendations on a variety of subjects encompassing power consumption for customers, both internal and external. Including site evaluations to help customers with electrical protection best practices, backup power design and sizing, and electrical efficiency recommendations.
  • Provide support, advice, and recommendations on a variety of electrical distribution system components (transformers, capacitor banks, voltage regulators, electronic reclosers, Automatic throwovers, e.g.) and their operational status, including proactive maintenance strategies.
  • Provide advice, device testing protocols, and recommendations on all new electrical distribution automation devices, solar, battery co-generational, battery storage systems, microgrids attached to the CPS Energy grid, and Volt Var optimization project voltage analysis.
  • Provide support, advice, and recommendations on electrical distribution system voltage corrective measures during large field distribution switching sequences, as well as during adverse conditions such as peak heat or cold weather events. This also includes planned voltage lowering in our VVO (Volt/VAR Optimization) projects.
  • Equipment Inventory Evaluation and Purchasing, including evaluation and investigation of new test equipment. Initiate purchase requisitions and manage all related activities necessary to ensure the availability of equipment and software for efficient power quality monitoring and analysis.
  • Supervision of all Power Quality and Voltage specialists, including conducting performance appraisals and managing all associated activities and documentation related to employee performance. Develop and deliver in-house training for Power Quality Specialists.
  • Customer Interaction & Job Completion to include off-site customer presentations regarding power quality and/or reliability issues, participating in community events to educate customers, and conducting "lunch and learn" demonstrations for various client segments (manufacturing, hospitals, industrial customers, etc.) on power quality and/or reliability concerns. Finalize all communications with customers regarding power quality, reliability, and voltage issues, including analysis of inspections on capacitors, regulators, meters, and providing input on power quality software.
  • Support reliability and continuous improvement efforts by tracking, analyzing, and reporting key reliability metrics, working closely with internal teams to identify areas of improvement. Collaborate on initiatives that drive system performance, operational efficiency, and reliability enhancements to meet established goals and performance targets.
  • Ensure Safety standards are met by conducting driver and job site observations and providing feedback for direct reports. Schedule and facilitate safety meetings, complete Safety Event Notifications, and participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for requested area events as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of power quality, electrical distribution systems, and voltage support principles.
Proficient in power quality, energy management, electrical system analysis, or related fields.
Extensive experience in the electrical field or electric distribution systems.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supervising technical teams and managing cross-functional projects.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in power quality data analysis, dashboard/KPI development, and regulatory reporting.
  • Effective communication skills for technical knowledge transfer.
  • Journeyman and/or Master Electrician License.

Minimum Education
Bachelor's degree in relevant field such as energy management, electrical, technology, business, or other related disciplines.
Required Certifications
Working Environment
Indoor and outdoor work, walking, standing, sitting, hearing, bending, crouching. Employee may be subject to extreme noise, extreme temperatures, electrically energized environments and hazardous conditions.
Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator.
Use of power measurement and infrared equipment. Ability to travel to and from client meetings, training sessions and other business-related events. After hours work may be required.
Physical Demands
Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
