Purpose of the Job

The Vice President, Mortgage Loan Production is responsible for developing and managing the activities associated with the retail loan officer team. This includes several critical areas for success of the team. A laser focus on a top of class mortgage experience for members through a strong relationship with the Branch network, building strong relationships with referral partners, coaching, staff development, recruiting, assisting with employee on-boarding/terminations as needed, training and sales related activities are primary responsibilities. The Vice President drives the development and growth of a sales culture that promotes home ownership to the benefit of our members.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Leads efforts with the MLO Non-Producing Manager and MLO staff in the identification of new business opportunities, the development of the existing member/customer base, and the initiation of new member and referral relationships to expand the organization's residential lending relationships. Helps to develop internal referral opportunities with other lines of business leadership. Recruits, develops, and coaches a team of Mortgage Loan Originators to drive external and internal mortgage production and to meet or exceed established goals. Supports the team in achieving goals through coaching and modeling the behaviors and core values of Truliant. Participates in various sales and operational meetings throughout the Credit Union and shares updates, market information, partnership success, best practices and any other key information related to the mortgage channel. Manages team to ensure production goals are met and all regulatory and internal policies and procedures are adhered to. Coaches, develops and inspires staff to maximize their potential. Continually develops and maintains specialized knowledge of all residential lending products. Ensures staff has the appropriate resources and training needs to successfully compete in the marketplace. Supports and assists Mortgage Loan Originators with structuring loans, delivering quality files, adhering to industry and the corporation's guidelines and facilitating solid internal partnerships with our key partners Responds to customer inquiries and referrals that are generated from personal contacts and from other Truliant Federal Credit Union business channels. Ensures exceptional member service by maintaining thorough knowledge of lending programs, policies, procedures and regulatory requirements, demonstrating a commitment to professional ethics, complying with all Federal and State compliance policies and adhering to HMDA requirements. Utilizes Truliant Federal Credit Union training materials, reference tools and other resources to provide accurate and up-to-date loan program/policy information to both external members and internal business partners. Ensures exceptional member experience by overseeing loan process from origination to close and providing on-going communication to members and business partners. Oversees and ensures successful completion of all assigned Mortgage Loan Officer Training activities. Participates in community efforts to promote home ownership. Works with Mortgage Processor, Underwriter, and all other Mortgage Staff to ensure that loan documents are submitted to processing within 7 days or as modified by Truliant Federal Credit Union. Maintains current and thorough knowledge of all lending programs, policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have sound understanding of standard concepts, practices, procedures, regulations and compliance within the loan origination environment, as well as services offered by the credit union
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of first and second mortgage real estate lending, including mortgage processing, underwriting, and closing procedures, and any regulatory compliance relating to real estate lending
  • Must have a continuing knowledge of insurance products offered and underwriting guidelines to ensure the loans are insurable to protect the credit union's loan-to-value in the collateral
  • Must show demonstrated success in prospecting, generating leads, closing business and consistently meeting/exceeding production goals
  • Must have broad knowledge of all aspects of the mortgage industry, including secondary market concepts and practices and underwriting guidelines
  • Must have demonstrated ability to lead a sales team to achieve goals and objectives
  • Must have ability to recognize and focus on critical issues; must balance and respond to competing needs within the organization
  • Must have verifiable, established network of referral business including Real Estate professionals and other centers of influence
  • Must have strong computer skills including a fundamental understanding of MS applications, database management and previous experience utilizing laptop technology for communication purposes including accessing rate, credit and loan status information
  • Must have solid time management skills and the ability to organize prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Must have ability to analyze and comprehend complex financial data and provide financial alternatives
  • Must display professionalism and effective interpersonal skills
  • Must have excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written
  • Must have ability to understand all business processes within the Credit Union
  • Must meet requirements to be bonded
  • Must be detail oriented and well organized
  • Must be able to work in a general office environment
  • Must be able to complete all assignments with minimal supervision
  • Should possess a strong commitment to providing excellent service to Truliant's members

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and stooping required
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time and use a computer
  • Must be able to moderately lift or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds
  • Occasional travel required between branches

Education and Background

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Finance or related experience with loan processing, or financial services preferred
  • Must have 10+ years of previous Mortgage experience
  • Minimum of 7 years management experience required, 3 years of which in a senior management role
  • Must have demonstrated experience in mortgage sales and marketing
