Your role with us

The lab courier at Salem Health plays a critical role in ensuring the timely and safe transportation of specimens, supplies, and reports. This position requires attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently. The ideal candidate will have experience in a medical or laboratory setting and be able to prioritize tasks efficiently.

What you'll do

  • Performs duties within established guidelines, policies, and procedures, prioritizing tasks for safe, productive, and efficient completion with minimum turnaround time.
  • Ensures timely, efficient, and safe pickup and delivery of specimens, supplies, and reports, maintaining positive specimen identification and transport integrity.
  • Notifies supervisor of problems and subsequent actions, maintaining accurate records and logs.
  • Operates company vehicle safely, obeying traffic laws and maintaining a good driving record, and coordinates routine maintenance.
  • Maintains knowledge of guidelines, policies, and procedures through annual review and participates in training and continuing education.
  • Utilizes Laboratory Information System effectively and communicates with dispatch and others in an appropriate manner.
  • Participates in projects and activities as requested, evaluating new products and procedures, and pursues opportunities to improve patient care and resolve identified problems.
  • Coordinates delivery and pickup of various items, sorts and delivers mail, stocks breakroom supplies, and enters route data into designated database.

  • Candidates will thrive in this role by possessing experience in a medical office or laboratory setting and demonstrated customer service experience.
  • Success in this role requires excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and follow detailed instructions.
  • A working knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems and Hospital Information Systems is beneficial, along with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with clients, representatives, and patients.
  • The ability to prioritize tasks, adhere to schedules, and practice defensive driving and road courtesy is essential, along with familiarity with specimen handling requirements and regulatory guidelines.
