Purpose of the Job

The Repossession and Remarketing Specialist is a crucial role in managing the repossession process and subsequent remarketing. The Specialist facilitates all aspects of the organization's repossession process with external agencies by investigating, negotiating, scheduling and contracting with qualified vendors. The Specialist must ensure compliance with relevant regulations while maximizing asset recovery and minimizing losses to Truliant.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Utilizes investigative techniques and advanced skip trace methods to locate and repossess collateral securing vehicle loans that are in default.
  • Collaborates with legal and compliance departments to ensure adherence to local, state, and federal laws governing repossession procedures.
  • Serves as liaise with law enforcement agencies or third-party vendors regularly to facilitate the repossession process.
  • Maintains accurate and detailed records of all repossession activities and associated expenses in required databases
  • Coordinates voluntary surrenders and the subsequent transport to auto auction.
  • Completes and processes required documentation including all legal notifications and title work.
  • Develops and implements strategies for remarketing repossessed assets to maximize recovery value. Including but not limited to researching market trends and competitor offerings to determine optimal pricing and resale values.
  • Reviews the condition of the vehicle, coordinates and negotiates necessary storage and/or repairs, negotiates sales agreements with approved buyers.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date recordings regarding inventory lists, repossession assignments, auction results and demand reports as requested by Management.
  • Monitors the progression of the repossession status with assigned repossession agencies and updates system accordingly.
  • Files insurance claims that may require repair or settlement due to total loss of repossessed vehicles.
  • Maintains professional relationships with vendors and members, ensuring exceptional and empathetic service at all times.
  • Communicates effectively with internal and external members to address inquiries and concerns regarding the repossession process.
  • Works with GAP, member-insured, forced placed insurance and warranty companies to file and process claims.
  • Works with dealerships and aftermarket product companies to obtain refunds.
  • Assists members with default resolution, delinquency guidance, repossession/redemption process and loss mitigation to avoid repossession.
  • Performs all duties of the Collections Specialist II as backup support when needed.

  • Assists with other tasks and projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have sound understanding of standard concepts, practices, procedures, regulations and compliance within the realm of the Repossession process
  • Must have thorough knowledge of collection policies and procedures and ensure requirements are integrated into current practices
  • Must have intermediate skills in MS Excel and Word
  • Must have excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written
  • Must demonstrate ability to work in a cross-functional team
  • Must be able to demonstrate persistence, determination, tact and accountability
  • Must have the ability to define problem and propose solutions; advanced problem solving required
  • Must be advanced and skillful in handling complex accounts and situations
  • Must be able to maintain objectivity and emotional stability under pressure
  • Must be detail-oriented and well organized
  • Must be flexible and able to shift resources and priorities as required.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work under pressure.
  • Must approach work enthusiastically and accept responsibility
  • Must demonstrate multi-tasking skills to handle various tasks and responsibilities
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality
  • Must be able to work in a general office environment
  • Should possess a strong commitment to providing excellent service to Truliant Members and support staff

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and stooping required
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time and use a computer
  • Must be able to moderately lift or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds

Education and Background

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in Repossession and Remarketing, with strong understanding of repossession laws and procedures required
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Collections or related field preferred
  • Experience with related vendors/processes such as Dealertrack, JD Power, RDN, SCRA, TLO and CLEAR preferred
