Overview
The Analyst, Unclaimed Property will be a member of the accounting team and primarily be responsible for reviewing and processing claims for unclaimed property, communicating with claimants and holders, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations for the Company.
Responsibilities
* Review, investigate, and process claims for unclaimed property, ensuring compliance with state regulations, and communicating with claimants and holders. This includes verifying ownership, processing claims, and resolving disputes related to unclaimed property. * Conduct research and investigations to verify ownership and prevent fraudulent claims, including reviewing public records and contacting claimants. * Ensure compliance with state unclaimed property laws, policies, and procedures, including reporting requirements. * Collaborating with other departments, such as accounts payable, reimbursement, and legal, to ensure efficient and compliant handling of unclaimed property. * Utilizing data analysis skills to identify patterns, discrepancies, and potential risks within unclaimed property data. * Oversee the maintenance of the returned check log, working with AR Reps and the CBOs to ensure that returned checks are processed in a timely manner. * Oversee invoice and check voids and ensure they are properly approved, have appropriate documentation, and are processed in a timely manner. * Research, review, and process unclaimed property voids monthly. Sending ADI templates to corporate accounting for appropriate journal entry processing. * Prepare aging reports of CBO returned check queues and escalate as needed. * Obtain outstanding check lists (AP and Payroll) and perform appropriate and timely mitigation and due diligence confirming that all responses are recorded and acted upon appropriately. * Assist with the timely filing of all states 'unclaimed property filings including preparing reports for review for state submission of unclaimed property balances. Preparing requests for payments or ACH forms to have the funds remitted to each state. * Prepare mailings to each state and confirm each stat had funds sent and received. * Maintaining accurate records of claims and property holdings. * Resolving disputes and questions related to unclaimed property claims. * Participating in special projects and initiatives related to unclaimed property, such as audits or investigations. * During acquisitions, assist with the integration of the previous entity into our unclaimed property policies and procedures. * Maintain detailed and organized records for all filings. Qualifications
Education Level: Associate Degree Major: Accounting or Finance Degree must be from an accredited college or university. Education Details: Certifications and/or Licenses: Experience in lieu of required education is acceptable: Yes Continuing education is required to maintain license and to perform job: No Customarily has at least the following experience: 1 year * Unclaimed property accounting experience preferred * Proficient with MS Excel * Experience with large-scale financial systems (Oracle, PeopleSoft, SAP) preferred * Strong analytical and time management skills required
