PAY RANGE

The Target Pay Range for this position is $138,300.00-$169,000.00 annually. The full Pay Range is $107,400.00 - $199,900.00 annually. At BECU, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, and education or training. Should an offer for employment be made, we will consider individual qualifications. In addition to your salary, compensation incentives are available for the hired applicant. Incentives are performance based and targets vary by role.

IMPACT YOU'LL MAKE

As a Senior Database Engineer (DBE), you will have the exciting opportunity to help in leading a diverse team in maintaining and enhancing the database infrastructure that supports BECU staff and member-facing applications. Your contributions will be instrumental in ensuring the security, availability, and optimal performance of our database software.

You will have the autonomy to implement automation solutions, making a tangible impact on the efficiency and reliability of our systems. Your problem-solving skills will be put to the test as you tackle complex challenges, ensuring application uptime and recommending innovative solutions to address business needs.

In this role, you will foster a collaborative and inclusive environment, working closely with other Database Engineers to share knowledge and provide mentoring opportunities. Your expertise and leadership will contribute to a dedicated team dynamic, driving success and growth within our organization.

To join our dynamic team, we require candidates to be residents of WA, OR, ID, AZ, TX, GA, or SC.If you're located in Washington state and within a reasonable driving distance from Tukwila, we are requesting that you come into our HQ on Tuesdays & Wednesdays.For those candidates that live outside the commute distance of TFC and in any of our approved remote work locations, this role will be remote. WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Data Infrastructure Management: Design, build, maintain, and secure BECU's data infrastructure, considering the broader organizational perspective.
  • Complex Services and Process Development: Developing, managing, and automating complex services and processes within BECU's ecosystem using SQL and scripting languages. Leveraging SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, or other data tools to build innovative solutions that address business needs. Continuously improving CI/CD pipelines for database-related artifacts, ensuring efficient deployment and release processes.
  • Code Quality Assurance: Contribute to BECU's overall code quality by enforcing existing coding standards within delivery teams. Collaborate with staff and leadership to develop and define coding standards.
  • Support and Problem Resolution: Provide escalated support, incident response, and problem resolution for issues impacting BECU systems.
  • Mentoring and Consulting: Act as a mentor to junior engineers on the team. Provide consulting and code reviews to delivery team members. Serve as a technical consultant and liaison for delivery teams within your areas of expertise.
  • Technology Roadmap and Vision: Collaborate with Architects and product owners to design and document the team's technology roadmap and vision.
  • Continuous Improvement and Development: Identify opportunities for code, design, and structural improvements in BECU's technical systems. Develop and implement improvements as appropriate.
  • Technical Communication: Present and communicate technical topics to the broader engineering community.
  • On-Call Support: Be available on an on-call basis to promptly respond to issues or problems arising outside of business hours, providing necessary support.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical or business discipline, or equivalent work experience required.
  • Minimum 5 years of related functional experience as a database engineer with at least 2 years of experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery patterns, including Infrastructure-as-Code, and tools (e.g., Azure DevOps Services, GitHub Actions, etc.) required.
  • Experience working with current SQL Server versions and familiarity with Oracle family of products across currently supported versions required.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex issues, tune queries, systems in multiple of the above tools and RDBMSs required.
  • Experience supporting databases in two or more enterprise infrastructure platforms (e.g., Azure PaaS, Azure IaaS, Windows, or Linux servers) required.
  • Experience writing, reviewing, and debugging complex SQL DML and DDL and knowledge of using SQL for administrative tasks. Familiarity with advanced SQL language concepts required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with core database administration concepts including backup and recovery, high availability, disaster recovery and replication required. Experience writing and maintaining automation for standard tasks using SQL, PowerShell, Python, BASH, or other language preferred.
  • Experience performing code reviews, pull requests, and following source control standards such as Git Flow or Trunk-Based Development preferred.
  • Experience working with large datasets, data warehousing and sophisticated ETL processes, analytics engines required. Experience with Snowflake or other data warehouse solutions preferred.
  • Experience working with networking (OSI layers, HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP, DHCP, Routers, Gateways, Subnets, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience using RDBMS constructs and OS authentication to provision access to enforce least privileged principle required. Experience with data protection tools such as encryption and obfuscation preferred
