Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Museum Operations Manager for The Zimmerli Art Museum. This position reports to the director and is responsible for the overall maintenance of the building, storage spaces, and exhibition galleries.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Oversees all exhibition and permanent gallery installations, security, special event set-ups, and coordinates upgrades to the physical plant, security alarm and camera systems with Rutgers' Information Technology personnel.
- Facilitates the periodic update of the Zimmerli Art Museum's Emergency Response Plan and serves as its primary emergency contact.
- Monitors and maintains the temperature and humidity inside of the Museum to ensure the required range is maintained for the safety of the artwork and the comfort of visitors and staff.
- Oversees safety protocols for the Museum, and makes recommendations for improvements and implements when necessary.
- Manages security services, collaborates with Rutgers Information Technology on resolving all technical issues for the Museum including, but not limited to matters involving the telephone system, internet connection, computers, fire and security alarm systems, security cameras, exhibition equipment and other systems.
- Supervises the Coordinator of Building Services, Manager of Visitor Services and Security, Special Events Manager, and a part-time museum installer.
- Works closely with senior staff personnel.
- Supervises contract workers assigned to specific projects when scheduling demands.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree and at least two (2) years of experience in a facility setting.

Certifications/Licenses |
- A valid driver's license would be required for this position.
|
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Understanding of facility management, mechanical systems, construction processes and contracting procedures.
- Experience developing projects and budgets.
- Knowledge of design and construction of exhibits, packing crates, and demonstrated skills in the use of power tools and machinery.
- Ability to assess needs and requirements necessary for the moving of artwork.
- Experience with alarm systems and security procedures.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Five (5) years of experience in a facility setting.
- Experience with installation, moving works of art, preparing exhibition furniture.
- Demonstrated ability to manage staff, prepare budgets, and strategic thinking.
