About the role

Reporting to the Midwest Region President, the Chief Commercial Officer will serve as a member of the Midwest Regional Leadership Team and will provide the commercial leadership, strategic vision, and functional expertise required to lead the Midwest Region to successful organic growth.

This experienced leader is a relationship-focused, credible, and dynamic commercial strategist who will thrive within a mission-driven organization that has a growing customer-focused and high-performance culture. This highly visible, internal and external leader will have demonstrated success in creating and executing a sales strategy across all business verticals, including Waste-to-Energy (TTF), Material Processing (MPF), and 3rd Party Solutions focused on helping customers drive sustainability.

This executive will possess a high level of proficiency and demonstrated expertise in overall commercial operations, including market access, commercial analytics, forecasting, new business development, and portfolio strategy. They will help drive improvement and growth within the region in environmental waste, energy, and sustainability, ensuring we are delivering on our customers' expectations while meeting internal and external measures of success. By collaborating with operations leaders and other functions the role will enable the region to meet our growth transformation objectives, driving strategic plan activities in the region as they relate to commercial excellence.

Ideally, the executive in this position will be based in the Midwest, preferably in Chicago, IL, to enable face-to-face peer and customer interaction.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Lead a best-in-class, high-performance Sales team, and related support functions (80+ employees total).
  • With a focus on world-class service and utilizing lean management principles, drive commercial excellence and asset optimization via proactive customer engagement.
  • Provide effective leadership to the commercial organization to ensure the development of the business and its people.
  • Play a key leadership role with the broader organization to accommodate anticipated growth.
  • Lead, develop, and communicate the commercial vision, strategy, and resource requirements to successfully and profitably grow the Midwest Region.
  • Ensure the management of all financial aspects of the commercial organization, including budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, and overall management and accountability of the P&L.
  • Provide commercial analysis and direction for the development and management of the business portfolio pipeline and ensure that plans for current and future business are fully aligned with the needs of the Midwest Region market.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of commercial experience, including market analysis and sales leadership experience, preferably in the waste industry.
  • Outstanding track record of building effective organizations, developing employees, and building the relationships essential to influencing decision-making at all levels in the organization.
  • A strategic/analytical and results-driven thinker with a proven ability to plan, direct, and lead a robust commercial organization.
  • Demonstrated success in building commercial organizations.
  • Extensive experience with developing and executing sales strategies, field leadership, market research and analysis, and business forecasting.
  • Strong executive presence, focus and drive to succeed - confidence, passion, and high energy.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving dynamic small to mid-sized company environment.
  • Knowledge of commercial compliance and all laws and regulations that govern promotional and non-promotional activities.

Education:

  • BS / BA in engineering, business, management or related discipline.
  • Graduate degree in business, strategic leadership, or related field preferred.

Preferred / Additional Skills:

  • Strong executive leadership skills, communication, presentation, and business partnering ability.
  • Proven ability to think strategically with strong analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong customer relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with others in a positive, collaborative manner.
  • Ability to travel domestically and to Canada up to 75%.
