Water Resources Engineer EIT

Clark Nexsen is currently seeking a Water Resources Engineer EIT in our Virginia Beach office. You'll have the opportunity to be involved in a wide variety of programs and projects, including municipal, state, and federal/DOD projects. We currently have a need for project experience within our Infrastructure Market Sector, providing expertise and guidance on water resources, storm drainage and stormwater management design, flood studies, culvert design and HEC-RAS analysis, bridge hydraulics, hydrologic & hydraulic modeling. This motivated individual will provide technical analysis and design services on a multitude of design projects as part of Clark Nexsen's dynamic Infrastructure Market Sector.

General Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:



  • Performing various aspects of stormwater design as directed by a Senior Water Resources Engineer including conceptual studies, design analyses, calculations, site design for buildings or subdivisions, design for infrastructure projects, and design related to a business development activity such as a response to a Request for Proposal (RFP).
  • Analyze and problem solve complex stormwater and flooding issues, while bringing reliable and cost-effective solutions to our clients
  • Perform water systems analysis and modeling, using various software programs.
  • Development of erosion and sediment control plans and strategies
  • Design stormwater management facilities to support municipal, state, and federal/Department of Defense projects
  • Be able to communicate effectively with team members and clients, with a focus on providing quality deliverables in a timely manner
  • Be able to assist with presentations to clients and the general public, communicating the benefits of a project and/or technical solution clearly and concisely
  • Assist in the preparation of construction documents, including plans and specifications
  • Prepare quantity take-offs and/or estimates for drainage projects.
  • Development of engineering reports and memorandums.
  • Working with contractors and clients during the construction phase of a project to resolve issues and to communicate project requirements
  • Perform technical work in various software applications, including but not limited to Microstation, GEOPACK Drainage, Civil 3D, PondPack, Flow Master, PCSWMM, StormCad, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and ARC-GIS.


Education, Technology, and Experience



  • Bachelors Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or an equivalent related degree is required OR
  • Graduate-Level Degree in Water Resources
  • Passage of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam required
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant post education experience in water resource engineering and/or civil engineering projects.
  • Proven track record of delivering quality projects for a wide range of clients
  • Experience with land disturbance permits and storm water pollution prevention plans (SWPPP)
  • Ability to design complex open and closed storm drainage systems and stormwater management facilities
  • Proficient in communicating and enjoys and thrives working in a cohesive team environment
  • Ability to communicate with a wide-ranging audience, with differing technical and non-technical backgrounds
  • Experience in CAD platforms and stormwater/hydraulic design software such as PondPack, Flow Master, GEOPACK Drainage & Civil 3D
  • Ability to provide support on projects that may extend beyond the typical work week
  • Occasional overnight travel required
  • Experience with VDOT, municipal markets in Virginia, or the USACOE/NAVFAC/Department of Defense
  • Membership in professional societies such as ASCE, ACEC, AWRA


Physical Requirements

Work is sedentary and often performed in an office setting. Work area is lighted, heated, and ventilated. This position may require extended periods of standing, sitting, as well as some repetitive movements, bending and lifting of minimal weight. Workplace Flexibility

We have selected two as common days in the office to nurture collaboration and innovation and to support learning and growth through engagement with colleagues. We are asking everyone to be present on Mondays and Thursdays, with a required third day that will provide additional flexibility and be set established between you and your supervisor (with consideration given to your project team members and clients).
