We are actively looking for a Environmental Scientist to join our Tallahassee office. The Environmental Scientist will be working amongst our entire US based team. This position is ideal for a highly motivated, self-directed professional with a proven ability to work under pressure, adapt quickly, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment. This is not a passive role. Success in this position requires agility, intellectual curiosity, and a deep personal investment in environmental resilience.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Independently and collaboratively complete resilience and environmental assessments to support complex coastal and marine projects in planning, design, and implementation phases.
  • Take ownership of technical writing for coastal resilience, restoration, and development projects, including:
    • Detailed technical reports
    • Permitting documentation
    • Competitive and strategic funding proposals
  • Lead the development, processing, and acquisition of environmental permits and authorizations at the local, state, and federal levels, including leases and easements.
  • Conduct thorough regulatory feasibility assessments and technical analyses, working closely with interdisciplinary design and consulting teams.
  • Prepare and deliver environmental impact assessments and environmental management plans to meet rigorous compliance standards.
  • Author NEPA documents, impact analyses, and supporting studies with minimal oversight.
  • Perform fieldwork as required, including data collection and environmental analyses in support of permitting, planning, and project design.
  • Develop and contribute to public engagement strategies, including:
    • Outreach materials
    • Public-facing communications
    • Support for public events and stakeholder tools
  • Collaborate with engineering and design teams to conduct climate risk assessments using sea-level rise, coastal forces, rainfall, and compound flooding data.
  • Provide ongoing support for project management and proposal development, including budgeting, scheduling, and deliverables.
  • Contribute to market analysis and business development efforts related to coastal resilience and restoration.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, Environmental Resource management, planning or equivalent
  • 7-10 years of experience in the private, public, or engineering sectors, with demonstrable leadership in complex environmental projects.
  • Experience with Federal and state environmental permitting required.
  • Strong working knowledge of coastal zone policies, permitting frameworks, and environmental regulatory systems.
  • Solid understanding of coastal and ocean environments, including current ecological and regulatory issues.
  • Familiarity with major federal and state funding mechanisms for conservation, restoration, and adaptation projects.
  • Outstanding communication skills-written, verbal, and presentation-with a track record of conveying complex environmental concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven research and analytical skills, with a meticulous approach to developing reports and assessments.
  • Willingness and availability to travel, including to remote or field locations when needed.
  • Preferred Experience with:
    • Florida coastal consistency determinations
    • Proprietary authorizations and NEPA compliance
    • Nature-based solutions and vulnerability/adaptation planning
    • Public engagement and multi-stakeholder collaboration
    • Funding identification and proposal development

Physical requirements:

  • Majority of work will occur in an office setting; extended screen time and sitting required.
  • Fieldwork may include:
    • Swimming/snorkeling
    • Travel by kayak, canoe, or motorized vessel
    • Navigation of unpaved/natural terrain carrying field equipment
  • Work in hot, humid, or variable outdoor conditions typical of the southern U.S. may be necessary
