Remote OS Engineer

About the Position

Lenovo's Solutions & Services Group (SSG) is a business unit focused on delivering end-to-end IT solutions and services. It combines Lenovo's hardware and software expertise to offer services like attached services, managed services, and "as a Service" (AaS) offerings. SSG aims to help customers achieve their business outcomes by integrating various IT solutions and optimizing their technology investments.

In the OS Engineer role, you will be responsible for daily administration and maintenance of Linux and Windows systems. This position will be remote and will have CST working hours. There may also be quarterly travel to our office in downtown Chicago.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for daily administration and maintenance of Linux systems.
• Responsible for daily administration and maintenance of Windows systems.
• Independently analyze and resolve common issues with both Windows and Linux OS.
• Handle daily operation and maintenance of storage-related products, including both centralized and distributed storage systems.
• Optimize and improve existing operation and monitoring processes to enhance standardization and consistency in operations.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
• 1-2 years of Experience with Linux operation and maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated success managing environments with 100+ servers.
• Work Experience with NetApp ONTAP and IBM SVC products.
• Proficient in both Linux and Windows-related technologies, with the ability to independently resolve common system issues.
• Familiar with KVM virtualization technologies such as libvirt, QEMU, and Virtio.
• Proficient in shell or Python scripting, with strong skills in task automation.
• Familiar with network routing and switch technologies.
• Experience working with and troubleshooting TCP/IP and common network protocols.
• Hands-on approach to problem solving with excellent problem analysis and resolution skills.
• Cultural Competency working across Chinese, American, Desi, European, and South American cultural contexts, ensuring messages are communicated with clarity and tact.
• RHCE/MCSE Certification and Advanced Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field a plus.

The base salary budgeted range for this position is $70-80k. Individuals may also be considered for bonus and/or commission. This position will be remote and have CST working hours. There may also be quarterly travel to our office in downtown Chicago.
