Provides pharmacy services in a specialty area under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist to support UVA Health in its efforts of drug diversion prevention. The position will be dedicated to auditing of the controlled substances medication use process and assist in regulatory compliance for the pharmacy department.

- Continually seeks out additional training opportunities and stays abreast of new and changing information for these assigned areas
- Supports the training of new employees and participates in the creation and maintenance of training materials
- Policies and procedures are followed consistently
- Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician scope of practice to the supervisor as needed
- Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements
- Conducts audits of inventories of automated dispensing cabinets and manual logs, administration and wasting documentation, and user access.
- Audits receiving procedures and filing for all controlled medication shipments and invoices.
- Participates in maintaining the Drug Diversion Dashboard.
- Reviews and follows up on regularly processed reports dealing with controlled substances, analyzing for trends or issues.
- Participates in applicable committees and Drug Diversion Response Team.
- Maintains specialized acumen in technology and diversion software program for comprehensive auditing and reporting.
- Collaborates with pharmacy, nursing, and physician leaders to ensure controlled substance regulatory compliance is met.
- Participates in medication safety event reviews related to controlled substance handling
- Reviews and interprets data from multiple sources including, but not limited to, EMR documentation, automated dispensing cabinet systems, and any other information deemed pertinent.
- Ability to interpret regulations, rules, and laws to remain current on knowledge of regulatory standards for controlled substances

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: High school graduate or equivalent request.
- Experience: 2 years of relevant experience required
- License/Certification: Licensed pharmacy technician with eligibility to work in the state of Virginia is required. Recognized Certificate in controlled substance diversion prevention or medication safety within 6 months of hire
Job requires standing for prolonged periods. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull < 40lbs.
Position Compensation Range: $22.39 - $44.79 Hourly
