The Role:

The Senior Director of Planned Giving, reporting to the Executive Director of Planned Giving, will join a gift planning team that manages, plans, and executes a comprehensive planned giving program for multiple foundations of Providence across seven states. This role will serve as a subject matter expert in planned giving, where familiarity with tax laws and regulations around charitable giving is pivotal.

What You'll Do:



  • Values Ambassador: Demonstrate Providence St. Joseph Health's core values of dignity, justice, compassion, integrity, and excellence in every interaction with customers, employees, and visitors.
  • Subject Matter Expert: Provide specialized knowledge and support in estate administration, collaborating with trustees, attorneys, and estate executors to optimize operational efficiencies.
  • Performance Facilitator: Facilitate stakeholder groups to monitor and manage performance, protecting donor interests and advising on donation strategies.
  • Relationship Builder: Cultivate and educate financial professionals about PHS and its mission, responding to planned gift inquiries promptly and maintaining donor records.
  • Independent Achiever: Manage your time effectively, make informed decisions, maintain departmental standards, and support the Executive Director of Planned Giving with complex scheduling needs.
  • Mission Integrator: Incorporate the Mission and core values into daily activities, attending meetings, and performing duties that support organizational goals.


What You'll Bring:



  • Educational Background: Bachelor's Degree required; CSPG/CAP or JD preferred. Legal and financial planning knowledge strongly encouraged.
  • Experience: 5-10 years (10+ preferred) in planned giving or related field at a large non-profit; experience with strategic planning, proposal development, and planned giving portfolio management.
  • Leadership Skills: 5 years of leadership experience preferred, with a demonstrated ability to work with virtual teams.
  • Communication Proficiency: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce work across multiple platforms and align messaging across teams.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with fundraising databases/CRMs and planned giving software, and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Adaptability and Initiative: Ability to work independently or collaboratively, balancing multiple priorities while handling sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Stress Management: Maintain composure under pressure and resolve issues proactively in a fast-paced, complex environment.
