Job Overview
The Vice President of Business Development Operations is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing and integrating the business development, capture, and proposal functions across the organization. Reporting to the Chief Growth Officer, the VP will develop strategies to expand CGS's market presence and drive revenue growth across various sectors, including federal, state, and commercial markets. This individual will take ownership of the entire opportunity pipeline, ensuring alignment with the company's long-term objectives, and will play a critical role in shaping and executing capture campaigns. Additionally, the VP will foster strategic relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring CGS remains competitive in its business pursuits. The position requires a leader who is both visionary and tactical, capable of guiding teams toward successful outcomes in a fast-paced, highly competitive environment. Work Model: Onsite/In-Office
Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Lead, manage, and develop the geographically disperse business development, capture, and proposal teams to ensure the effective pursuit of strategic goals and opportunities.
- Oversee pipeline management, ensuring that identified opportunities align with the company's strategic vision and long-term objectives.
- In coordination with the Strategy and Operations team, create and manage capture campaigns aimed at driving growth in targeted markets, maximizing CGS's competitive advantages.
- Build and nurture relationships with key customers, partners, and stakeholders to enhance business development efforts and increase opportunity flow.
- Collaborate with proposal development teams to ensure the quality and timeliness of all submissions, including technical and cost proposals.
- Design and implement innovative proposal solutions that showcase CGS's capabilities and meet customer needs.
- Drive the development of win strategies, proposal themes, and discriminators for major opportunities.
- Monitor and review capture plans, progress, and outcomes to continuously improve the pursuit of future opportunities.
- Ensure alignment with CGS leadership on business development objectives, competitive positioning, and strategic opportunities.
- Partner with the Chief Growth Officer and senior leadership on growth initiatives and key strategic pursuits.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Accountable For:
- Knowledge of DoD or other federal government contracting, FAR, and related terms and regulations.
- Knowledge of best practices in government contracting.
- Successful management of CGS's business development, capture, and proposal teams.
- Effective execution of capture campaigns focused on expanding CGS's market share.
- Strategic alignment with CGS leadership to drive business growth.
- Maintaining and expanding relationships with key stakeholders and customers.
- Timely and quality delivery of proposals and bid submissions.
- Development of innovative approaches to win new business opportunities.
- The ability to work as an individual or on a team, and have flexibility to work non-traditional hours when necessary, in a deadline-oriented environment.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in business development, capture management, and proposal leadership, preferably within the federal government sector.
- Extensive knowledge of FAR and federal government contracting practices.
- Proven ability to manage teams and lead large-scale proposal efforts.
- Demonstrated success in capturing opportunities across various markets.
- Strong relationship-building skills, with an established network in relevant sectors.
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and pre-hire drug test.
- Highly proficient with MS Office and CRM software.
Working Conditions:
- This position primarily operates in an office environment, but requires travel 30-40% of the time, including travel to leadership gatherings and attendance at customer meetings and industry events.
Physical Requirements:
- The role requires the ability to work at a computer for extended periods and participate in meetings in person or virtually.
- Travel to various locations for customer engagement or conferences is required.
