Nursing Manager - Women's Life Care

The Nursing Manager over the Women's Lifecare services will provide twenty-four hour responsibility for personnel and operations of the Women's Lifecare Center to include Labor and Delivery, Nursery and OB/Gyn. The Clinical Nurse Manager directs, supervises and evaluates the performance of the nursing staff, contributes to the development of fully qualified and continuously improving staff and supports work redesign and quality improvement within the department. The Clinical Nurse Manager plans and administers the annual budget in collaboration with the Director. The Clinical Nurse Manager integrates evidence-based nursing practice utilizing the nursing process.

Duties:

1. Demonstrates the importance of Service Excellence in job-related functions and interactions. Rewards those who commit to the standards on a regular basis and during performance appraisals.
2. Maintains patient and associate confidentiality and the confidentiality of hospital business information.
3. Demonstrates support of hospital and departmental process improvement activities according to the hospital PI plan.
4. Demonstrates efficiency through the appropriate use of resources or supplies, and timely and effective delivery of patient care or other hospital processes.
5. Fulfills responsibility to the organization by adhering to its philosophy, policies, and procedures and by supporting its goals.
6. Serves on committees as assigned.
7. Acts as leader, role model, and mentor to staff.
8. Demonstrates knowledge and application of regulatory agency standards.
9. Monitors and controls productive and non-productive time.
10. Controls overtime and supply costs.
11. Identifies capital needs and justification.
12. Schedules staff according to budgeted guidelines and provides core staffing daily.
13. Assures that orientation, annual competencies, and continuing education for all unit staff are completed.
14. Observes nursing activities on all shifts.
15. Provides counseling in a timely manner and initiates progressive discipline.
16. Completes annual performance reviews.
17. Hold regularly scheduled staff meetings.
18. Performs interactive daily unit rounds focusing on customer satisfaction (patients, physicians, associates, and visitors).
19. Investigate patient complaints and follow through on incident reports and corrective measures.
20. Monitors charting for accuracy and completeness. Utilizes chart audits to track progress.
21. Identifies performance improvement opportunities and utilizes PDSA to develop corrective action plans and evaluates progress through resolution.
22. Works with other departments to coordinate patient care.
23 Facilitates unit cleanliness and order.
24. Serves as back-up support to the charge nurse, particularly when the charge nurse on days is required to take patient assignment.
25. Serves as back-up support to the units, and take patient assignments as needed.
26 Maintains open communications with other clinical and ancillary departments to better serve the unit's needs.
27 Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Requirements:

Education requirements: Graduate of an accredited or NLN-approved RN program. BSN required, Masters Degree preferred.

Work experience requirements: Previous supervisory experience required. Minimum of 3 years of women's nursing experience required.

Required licenses/ certifications/courses: Current South Carolina or qualifying compact state nursing license. BLS, NRP, ACLS, and AWHONN Fetal Monitoring certification.

Required skills, knowledge and abilities: Must successfully pass any pre-employment assessment(s) required by the facility.
