Dr. Gleichmans laboratory focuses on the development of astrocytic manipulations to promote repair in the post-stroke brain. This work utilizes molecular biological techniques for cloning and packaging of viral vectors, as well as in vivo animal models of ischemic injury with immunohistochemical and behavioral analyses. The applicant will be responsible for the utilization of biochemical, histological and molecular biology methods to develop viral vectors and assess repair in the post-ischemic brain as well as training others in these techniques. The applicant will be responsible for design, execution and management of research project as well as assist in the preparation of research manuscripts and preparation of presentations at national and international conference/workshops. Specific ongoing projects the applicant will participate in include the development of novel tools to manipulate astrocytes and perturbation of key gene systems to improve post-ischemic repair. The candidate should have a Masters degree (or higher) in Neuroscience or related field and experience working in a research laboratory performing molecular/biochemical/cell biology experiments (5-6 years minimum). The position will work in a collaborative team environment, while being expected to be a self-motivated investigator who can manage their time efficiently and contribute conceptually to the design of the research program.
