Job Description
Primary Purpose The PALNG Instrument Technician is a skilled tradesperson whose primary responsibilities include inspecting, testing, repairing, installing, and modifying electronic and pneumatic instruments and control systems. They possess a solid understanding of electrical and electronic principles, a knowledge of process control systems and field instrumentation and can troubleshoot system problems using an assortment of test instruments and diagnostic tools. Their goal is to ensure that all instruments and control system components meet all specifications and function correctly to support safe, efficient, and reliable operation of PALNG.
Duties and Responsibilities
Install, monitor, repair and calibrate process automation equipment that manipulates pressure, flow, temperature, level, velocity (speed) and other process variables toward reliable control of an operating unit and its related facilities. Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and OEM specification manuals to determine instrument and controls system installation, layout, and functional requirements. Conduct instrumentation evaluation and troubleshooting for electrical, pneumatic, electronic and programmable logic control (PLC) systems.
Verify instrument performance following new installation or return to service following repair. Perform regular testing and inspections to ensure optimal operation of instruments. Evaluate instrument system setting and performance against NEC, NFPA 70E, ISA, and API standards.
Evaluate instrument performance to identify optimization and enhancement opportunities. Monitor instrument air quality. Ensure reliability of emergency back-up instrument air system(s). Perform online testing, tuning of Safety Instrumented System (SIS) performance and specifications.
Collaborate with process engineers to tune control system settings toward timely and accurate automation control. Maintains and troubleshoots various types of solenoid valves, switches, meters, indicators, temperature sensors, and Infrared and Ultraviolet detection technology. Craft custom tubing installations using intricate bending and connecting techniques to advantage tight space tolerances and potential high-pressure conditions.
Communicate frequently with unit Process Technicians to understand issues related to function of the DCS console and its related control systems. Ensure compliance with safety protocols, procedures, and regulations to maintain a safe working environment and prevent accidents and injuries. Remove/reconnect instrumentation connections as required to facilitate repair of process, fixed, and rotating equipment by PALNG or contract craftworkers.
Document work performed, including repairs, modifications, and maintenance activities, using electronic records and reports. Stay up to date with technological advancements, industry trends, and best practices in DCS, PLC, and other automation control systems and equipment. Evaluate pneumatic tubing systems for leaks and ensure proper functionality and performance using leak detection fluids and other testing equipment.
Repair and replace damaged or defective pneumatic components, including valves, fittings, filters and connectors. Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
Perform business management duties, such as maintaining records or files, preparing reports, or ordering supplies or equipment. Work from ladders, scaffolds, manlifts, or roofs to install, maintain, or repair piping systems, or fixtures.

Experience
- 1+ years of experience in Petrochemical, Refining or LNG Required
- 5+ years of experience in Related experience. Required
- 1+ years of experience in compatible leadership roles Preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Exhibit extensive knowledge in implementing best practices commonly used in industrial maintenance organizations.Possess in-depth knowledge of operating site safety, environmental, and emergency response programs. Advanced
- Exhibit analytical thinking and ability to utilize concise data and information while working through problems and implementing solutions.Demonstrate the ability to apply strong written and oral communication skills while participating in discussions with internal and external project stakeholders. - Demonstrate a proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and instrumentation bench equipment, such as screwdrivers, pliers, cutters, wrenches, tubing benders, grinders/ buffers and bench vises. Advanced
- Demonstrate a proficiency in using electronic calibration and testing instruments such as digital multimeters, HART Communicators, and various other diagnostic tools such as:- mA loop calibrators- thermocouple calibrators- RTD calibrators- multi-function process calibrators. Advanced
- Possess physical stamina and strength to perform manual labor, lift heavy objects, and work in various positions and environments.Display extensive experience in managing and mitigating risks associated with fluid systems maintenance work. Advanced
- Possess strong working knowledge and understanding of how to read and interpret electrical schematics and circuit/wiring diagrams. Advanced
- Possess strong working knowledge and understanding of how to read and interpret P&IDs, PFDs, and other Process Safety Information related to operation of an LNG plant.Possess the ability to manage multiple and complex issues and work independently. Intermediate
- Show consistent attention to detail and a commitment to quality, with the ability to diagnose and repair instrumentation issues accurately and efficiently. Advanced
- Possess strong working knowledge of Control of Work and safe isolation practices. Advanced
- Apply an understanding of the maintenance work process and systems. Advanced
Licenses and Certifications
- NCCER or equivalent Instrumentation Technician Certification Required
- TWIC Required
- Certified Control Systems Technician (ISA) Required
- Valid Driver's License Preferred

Work Schedule
OFFICE: Work onsite at a company facility due to the nature of the duties and responsibilities of the position.
