Job Description Summary The Advanced Practice Practitioner (APP) works independently and provides primary care, urgent care and/or mental health care, as well as health promotion to Wake Forest University (WFU) undergraduate and graduate students. The Advanced Practice Practitioner works in the clinic following the academic calendar. In addition to patient assessment and treatment, responsibilities include performance of some laboratory tests and equal share rotation "on-call" nights and weekends. Some after-hours call coverage will be expected during academic breaks and holidays; when the clinic is closed, APPs will be expected to participate in other administrative duties if they are scheduled to work.
Job Description Essential Functions:
- Provides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations,assessments, diagnoses, treatments, and/or referral for students; documents in patient records ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timeliness. Prescribes medicines and orders laboratory tests, according to regulatory standards and department procedures. Provides preventative and health maintenance evaluation, care, and guidance.
- Ensures compliance with accepted standards of confidentiality of information anddocuments.
- Follows established departmental policies, procedures, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
- Provides coverage for after-hours nurse line and weekend clinic on a rotating basis.
Other Functions:
- Attends scheduled staff meetings and in-service presentations.
- Participates with other Deacon Health staff planning, projects, and programs such as health promotion, surveys, and Division of Campus Life events. Serves on University committees, as requested
- Participates in other Deacon Health specialty clinics and programs, such as the allergy clinic and travel clinic. Participates in public health functions of Deacon Health (i.e. disease notification, outbreak management, communication with campus community and media, and prevention efforts) as assigned by the Director.
- Adheres to Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) standards.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- One year of relevant clinical experience required.
- Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medicalevaluation, diagnosis and treatment in primary care.
- Demonstrated ability to perform all of the duties of an Advanced Practice Practitioner notlimited to making prompt and appropriate assessments and treatments of emergencysituations and making appropriate referrals to outside consultants.
Nurse Practitioner
- Masters of Science in Nursing with Certification as a Nurse Practitioner. Licensed as a Nurse Practitioner by the North Carolina Board of Nursing or licensure eligible. Specialty certification as a family practitioner or adult practitioner is preferred. Current CPR certification.
Physician Assistant
- Graduate of a Physician Assistant Certification program. Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the North Carolina Board of Medicine or licensure eligible. Current CPR certification.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Two to three years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, previous experience with mental health, sexual health or musculoskeletal injuries.
- One year of student health experience in higher education.
Accountabilities:
- Assists with supervising and teaching family medicine residents.
- Essential student services staff: Support the residential student experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Occasionally moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces. Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Adjusting or moving objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
- Constantly moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one workstation to another. Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting and/or standing
Environmental Conditions:
- Occasionally exposed to low and/or high temperatures. Noisy environments and hazardous conditions.
