Instructor Responsibilities:

• Engages actively in self-development to support expertise in the department and quality in the practice setting.
• Demonstrates leadership traits and act as a positive role model for staff.
• Sets professional goals and takes opportunities for achieving these goals. Demonstrates evidence of self-development by participating in a minimum of 25 hours of formal continuing education contact hours. Orients, educates, and develops employees and healthcare providers to assure staff competence and staff's ability to fulfill specified responsibilities.
• Designs and delivers classes to orient staff to patient care standards, performance standards, and procedures. Utilizes specific tools to validate competency of work force. Provides classes to support entry programs for staff.
• Presents educational programs with defined content to maintain and improve staff competence in support of Inova Health System goals and strategic initiatives Assists managers and staff in maintaining and improving staff competence.
• Provides and coordinates educational programs to promote career progression.
• Consults with staff and/or visitors regarding career goals. Implements defined educational activities to support individual development and organizational goals. Implements educational programs which support retention of staff and/or recruitment of visitors.
• Facilitates academic affiliations and collaborative partnerships within Inova Health System. Supports career credentialing with Virginia Nurses Association-approved contact hours for nursing. Assures that classes and activities are linked to strategic initiatives. Supports the creation of a learning environment for Inova.
• Teaches classes and provides instruction according to adult leaning theory.
• Assists with the identification of learning needs for assigned population. Assists with the identification of appropriate teaching strategies to achieve identified organizational learning needs. Supports change within the organization.
• Determines outcomes of educational activities using reactionary data, manager satisfaction, patient safety data, and employee retention data. Incorporates best practices into educational programs.

Instructor Requirements:

• Experience - 3 years
• Education - Bachelor's Degree
