The Role

The Facilities Technician II will conduct maintenance, operation, and repair of facility and production facility equipment. This position also manages contractors and services associated with scheduled maintenance as well as conducting emergency repairs and replacement of equipment and components.

This position requires taking ownership of assignments directed at improving total operating efficiency, minimizing equipment downtime and improving internal administrative processes. This position also requires documentation support to ensure that documents such as validations, EIN's and PM's are correct and up to date for the assigned equipment and processes.

This position will be onsite in San Diego, CA.

The Responsibilities
  • Performing and documenting routine preventative maintenance on facilities HVAC equipment, central plant equipment, refrigerators and freezers utilizing maintenance software system.

  • Conduct non-routine plumbing and electrical repairs.

  • Conduct Facilities Work Requests for internal customers.

  • Coordinating efforts with outside vendors and contract service providers to accomplish objectives.

  • Investigation, corrections and documentation of internal alarms from the "Process Alarm Monitoring System".

  • Ordering and maintaining spare parts inventory and repair parts associated with facilities work requests.

  • Daily tours and verification of operation making necessary adjustments of all facilities equipment located on rooftop, in the central plant, and throughout the facility.

  • Documentation, meetings, organization, clean up.

  • Carries out duties in compliance with established business policies.

  • Carry out various tasks with site security systems such as conducting security badging; maintain security access control, and CCTV systems.

  • On-call responder for alarm calls, 24/7 coverage.

  • Carries out duties in compliance with established business policies.

  • Demonstrates commitment to the development, implementation and effectiveness of Quality Management System per ISO, FDA, and other regulatory agencies.

  • Understands and is aware of the quality consequences which may occur from the improper performance of their specific job. Has awareness of device defects that may occur in their area of responsibility, including product design, verification and validation, manufacturing and testing activities.

The Individual

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 2-4 years maintenance experience preferably in medical or health related environment

  • Must be available to work any shift and be "on call"

  • Must have valid CA driver's license, with desirable rating

  • Experience with power tools and their associated safety procedures

  • Experience conducting routine building/grounds maintenance

  • Experience working with and troubleshooting equipment electrical systems

  • Experience with machine shop equipment, power tools and their associated safety procedures

  • Experience conducting routine maintenance and repairs on automation equipment

  • Experience working in a high paced manufacturing environment

  • Ability to work within a self-directed work team environment

  • Experience working in combination with Engineering on projects

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently required

  • Excellent understanding and application of safety procedures required

  • Excellent use of communication, cooperation and interpersonal skills required

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently required

  • Basic electro-mechanical skills required

Preferred:

  • HVAC equipment knowledge

  • Refrigeration systems knowledge

  • Basic computer skills including, file management, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and preventative maintenance software

  • Knowledgeable of federal and other regulations, e.g. QSR's, ISO, ISO 13485, CMDR

  • Excellent documentation skills

  • Basic skills with machine lathe, mill and welding

The Work Environment

The work environment characteristics are representative of an office, manufacturing, laboratory, and warehouse environment and may include handling of viral and bacterial hazards, potentially hazardous chemicals, as well as infectious or potentially infectious bodily fluids, tissues and samples. Up to 75% of time at desk, standing or sitting extended periods of time. Flexible work hours to meet project deadlines.

The Physical Demands

Physical and work condition demands of the position include: Must be able to walk, climb ladders, stoop, kneel, crawl around and on top equipment, and above ceiling space, for periods of up to 15 minutes. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. from the ground to 4 feet on occasion. Moderate Lifting (up to 50 lbs.), pushing, pulling, moving, (furniture, equipment, machinery). Heavy lifting of equipment exceeding 50 lbs. with assistance from others and mechanical lifting equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must have adequate vision correctable by regular corrective lenses for color coded electrical wiring. Walking and conducting physical activities associated with completing equipment repair/replacement. Extreme physical activities as associated with large equipment/furniture relocation. Position requires use of Personal Protective Equipment as posted.

Salary Transparency

The salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. At QuidelOrtho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $65,000 annually. QuidelOrtho offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, along with a 401(k) plan, employee assistance program, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off (including sick time), and paid Holidays. All benefits are non-contractual, and QuidelOrtho may amend, terminate, or enhance the benefits provided, as it deems appropriate.
