THE POSITION

Are you an experienced driver looking for an opportunity to make a difference? The Department of General Services, State Surplus Division is seeking a dedicated and reliable Equipment Operator B to join our team. In this position, you will have the chance to operate warehouse machinery such as forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and box vans. Your contributions will support the efficient movement of supplies, equipment, and furniture across various Commonwealth facilities. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Equipment Operator B, you will be responsible for operating a variety of vehicles, some exceeding 32,001 pounds gross weight, to transport supplies, equipment, and furniture to and from state buildings and facilities across the Harrisburg area. Your tasks may include loading and unloading heavy items, ranging from furniture to files, and may be required to move objects up and down stairs when elevators are unavailable. Additionally, you will be responsible for ensuring that the warehouse is organized and stocked with the necessary items, while following safety protocols to minimize risk during heavy lifting. As part of your duties, you may dismantle and reassemble furniture for ease of transport. When not operating box trucks, you will assist with warehouse duties such as cleaning, organizing, and restocking. Occasionally, overnight travel may be required to transport items to and from other locations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience or training.

Special Requirements:

  • You must possess a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) with the air brake restriction (L) removed.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must possess one or more years of warehouse experience.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • One year of experience inputting data into the Pennsylvania Automated Surplus System (PASS).
