Why This Job

The Corporate Strategy team at CMC is responsible for identifying, evaluating and executing on growth opportunities across the diverse portfolio of construction materials businesses. This is a leadership position within CMC's Corporate Strategy team, reporting to the Director, Strategy. The successful candidate will lead cross-functional teams to develop and deploy organic and inorganic growth strategies for CMC's businesses to reach full potential. S/he will need to partner widely across the enterprise. S/he will not only work closely with senior leadership but also deep in the organization to uncover unique insights. S/he will also work closely with a number of corporate functions including Corporate Development, Operational Excellence, Commercial Excellence, Innovation, ESG, Legal, Finance, etc.

This role will also require a high degree of external orientation including regular interactions with customers, end users, competitors, regulators, advisors and other industry participants. Proposed strategic investment opportunities, will need to be based on deep industry insights and business value aligned to the Company's core competencies. S/he will regularly present research, business plans and recommendations to CMC's executive leadership team.

The successful candidate should have the ability to function at a broad-based, strategic level while also being capable of helping drive detailed, tactical execution. It's critical that this role develop and maintain effective relationships at all levels of the organization and be viewed as a thought partner by the company's leaders. What You'll Do
  • Direct cross-functional teams including service providers to execute a variety of projects including value chain analysis, value pricing, existing customer share gain, new customers growth, geographic expansions/exits, logistics/import strategies etc.
  • Gather/analyze data, trends, and customer intelligence to identify market opportunities and risks; conduct thorough research and evaluation of customer needs and preferences to inform strategic decision-making, segmentation and sales initiatives
  • Monitor KPIs and metrics to track market share, customer satisfaction, market sizing and business performance as well as translating this into actionable recommendations; develop comprehensive go-to-market strategies for segments to drive growth
  • Conduct regular assessments of competitors' strategies, product offerings, and pricing to identify areas of opportunity and competitive differentiation; provide insights and recommendations on competitive positioning
  • Identify distribution channels, pricing strategies, and define compelling value propositions to ensure CMC's offerings and customer experiences are clearly differentiated and Summit has the competitive edge to win more customers
  • Lead annual strategic planning for CMC to establish where to play and how to win including well-defined roadmaps to achieve CMC's strategic and financial objectives
  • Act as an agent of change to prepare and influence people within the organization to act with urgency
  • Author investment business cases with accompanying financial forecasts and return models; present key project insights and recommendations to senior executives
  • Work closely with the Corporate Development team to execute on bolt-on acquisitions including leading large, cross-functional teams and external advisors through due diligence and in the development of financial model assumptions
  • Contribute to improving the Strategy team by enhancing existing processes and coaching junior team members
What You'll Need
  • Prior work experience in strategy consulting, corporate strategy, marketing, business intelligence, market research or related roles
  • Exceptional analytical skills - ability to design & run market, competitive & regulatory insight programs, apply strategy frameworks, synthesize quantitative and qualitative information to support complex business hypotheses and data driven decisions
  • Ability to influence, motivate and direct large, cross-functional teams that do not report directly into this position
  • History of creating and delivering senior executive level presentations
  • Skilled at managing initiatives from start to finish, with a proven track record of delivering results
  • Experience in authoring business plans and/or investment business cases including financial forecasting will be considered a strong plus
  • Prior construction materials industry experience not required
  • Available to travel >20% of the time
  • Intellectually curious, data driven and exhibits the highest standards of integrity
  • Learning agility - seeks coaching, continuous improvement as well as willingness and ability to learn from experience
  • Effective communicator- able to convey complex ideas in a clear, concise manner both verbally and in slides to a broad range of audiences
  • Strong work ethic and a high sense of urgency with the proven ability to succeed in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
Your Education
  • Bachelor's Degree required (business-related field preferred)
  • Advanced Degree (MBA or MS) preferred
