National Radio Astronomy Observatory Title: Systems Administrator IV (42) Location: 520 Edgemont Rd, Charlottesville, VA 22903, USA Requisition Number: 42 Job Family: Systems Administration Pay Type: Salary Employer: National Radio Astronomy Observatory Position: Systems Administrator IV (Req #) Location: 520 Edgemont Rd, Charlottesville, VA 22903 Duties: Install project server and virtual systems for science supporting systems and work with high end users of expert systems to ensure stable workflows and dataflows for NRAO's large millimeter/submillimeter array telescope. Contribute to the organization's pan-observatory Science Information Systems projects and tasks to ensure good alignment and communications between sites. Resolve difficult problems and define/install software patches as necessary. Assist in the design and implementation of high performance and high throughput networks. Assist in the specification and deployment of new technology software and systems upgrades. Point of escalation for multiple service technologies. Be responsible for communication and impact mitigation in the event of an unplanned outage. Advise computer users on effective use of systems and general software tools and to ensure awareness and access to current documented and supported services. Act as Team Lead for operations support. Be responsible for the coordination and quality assurance of outcomes. Requirements: Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in computer science, computer engineering, or related field plus six years of related systems administration experience. Required expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers and workstations; Oracle database (including Golden Gate replication); high performance storage systems such as NGAS (Next Generation Archive System) and Lustre; and containerization of Science Applications. Skill set does not need to be maintained over the full term of required experience. 10% domestic and international travel for workshops and observatory site visits.
