GENERAL FUNCTION:

Fifth Third Bank's FICC ( Fixed Income, Currencies & Commodities) Summer Internship provides college students the opportunity to participate in a hands-on program supporting the FICC teams. This is a paid professional development opportunity where students will learn Fifth Third Bank's business practices, operations, and procedures, and build skills you need to assume a permanent role at a commercial banking institution.

This ten-week internship helps college students gain meaningful work experience and targeted educational opportunities to develop them as future organizational leaders and gain exposure to multiple business areas.

Students will acquire on-the-job skills and an understanding of the real-life work environment, while developing a professional network that includes some of the best talent in the industry.

The FICC Summer Intern will primarily support one of the four asset classes: Fixed Income Trading, Foreign Exchange Sales, Commodities Sales, or Interest Rate Derivative Sales. During the internship, students will work on projects with their respective groups, receiving feedback and performance evaluations based on accuracy, completeness, and through meeting applicable deadlines. At the conclusion of the internship, interns will present their overall experience to the senior leadership team, including key concepts learned and an overview of each project.

Job Duties:

  • Exhibit high attention to detail and discipline to check work to produce error free and properly formatted work on a consistent basis.
  • Exhibit strong work ethic and passion for excellence while conducting self in a professional manner.
  • Manage expectations while working on several high priority opportunities simultaneously with oversight from Associates and other senior members.
  • Ability to excel in both team and self-directing settings.
  • Communicate effectively with deal team members on status and prioritization of projects.
  • Develop good working relationships with peers and seniors in the organization.

Financial Risk Management:

  • Client execution support for Foreign Exchange, Commodities, and/or Interest Rate Derivative product analyses, providing high-level support for Front Office (FO) Sales and Trading, and contributing to Financial Risk Management's (FRM) strategic initiatives.
  • Produce client specific pitch books and sensitivity analyses with guidance from FRM Sales and Management.
  • Develop general FRM marketing materials and specific market analyses, including graphical representations, demonstrating historical trends, forecasts, technical trends, and pricing anomalies.
  • Support FRM Sales teams update, maintain and streamline pipeline reports.

Fixed Income Trading:

  • Provide support of primary and secondary market liquidity to assigned market sector to assist in achieving departmental fee income goals.
  • Support Public Finance, Mortgage-Backed Securities and Municipal Bond teams.
  • Balance, reconcile and manage inventory positions maintained within department policy limits.
  • File appropriate regulatory reports on timely basis.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Pursuing Bachelor's degree with strong financial or business background

  • Graduation date between December 2026 - May 2027

  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based immigration sponsorship now or in the future.

  • Strong academic record with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

  • Relevant internships and/or co-op program experience preferred.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Customer service skills with the ability to respond to internal and/or external requests.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to multitask and be flexible.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the capacity to learn additional software applications as required by the assignment.
  • Capable of managing own time to meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative.

Compensation:

We offer a competitive base salary that is reflective of the range of salary levels for all roles within this pay grade across the US. Individual salaries within this range will vary based on factors such as role, relevant skillset, relevant experience, education and geographic location.
