The position is in Liverpool, NY. Hybrid working schemes between remote and office are in place.

Job Purpose

National Grid's Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) department provides IT support services for the applications and environments that drive the company's critical operations. The Platform Engineer position will be part of the team supporting the New York jurisdiction's Energy Management System (EMS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) application. The EMS/SCADA application is critical for the monitoring and control of the transmission and distribution electrical networks. The successful candidate will join a team responsible for supporting the overall 24x7 operation of National Grid's EMS/SCADA.

Key Accountabilities

* Coordinate with field personnel to update the SCADA database, update operating displays, and commission field equipment that communicates with the EMS.
* Provide day-to-day EMS support by effectively responding to the needs of control room operating staff, field personnel, and other end users.
* Participate in support and troubleshooting problems in all aspects of the SCADA system, and specifically data acquisition issues including:
* Client workstation software installation
* Windows and Linux servers running vendor supplied software.
* Communication circuits using analog, digital (DDS), frame relay, T1, fiber, or MPLS.
* Participate in on-call rotation as required to support Control Center Operations and maintenance of the SCADA system during off hours.
* Coordinate security patching and anti-virus signature updates within the SCADA environment
* Participates in ad-hoc disaster recovery exercises, security testing, and incident management activities
* Participates as a member of 24/7 on-call support rotation

Qualifications

* A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electric Engineering technology, Cyber Security, or other technical discipline is preferred but not required.
* Working knowledge of Windows and Linux Operating Systems
* Basic understanding of electrical circuits and diagrams.
* Working knowledge of commercial relational database packages (Oracle, SQL, Postgres) is highly desired
* Experience working with commercial control systems such as Hitachi/ABB, GE, or OSI is highly desired
* Experience with control room operations or field operations business is desired
* Basic understanding of networking infrastructure and protocols including Routers, Switches, Hubs, TCP/IP, Firewalls and SNMP is an advantage
* Must possess ability to work independently and manage workload in a fast-paced environment
* Must be able to work effectively with remote teams and management

Salary

$81k- $95k a year
