Job Description
The Interventional Radiology Technologist assists and performs angiographic and interventional procedures under the guidance of the physician. This person performs a variety of complex specialized tasks eminent in operating radiologic equipment and to aid in the performance of vascular, cardiac, neuroradiology, angiographic, diagnostic and interventional procedures. This position assist the radiologist, cardiologist and/or vascular surgeon during procedure to include handling of instruments, operating and monitoring equipment, calling out equipment readings, alerting physician to changes in patient condition. Provides quality care to patients receiving diagnostic and interventional radiologic and cardiac procedures. These imaging examinations are in multiple settings. Functions as the first line interface with customers in the successful accomplishment of their imaging needs.
Responsibilities
- Operates highly complex radiographic equipment within the radiology department, operating suites and at the patient's bedside, selecting technical factors to ensure high-quality radiographs using the A.L.A.R.A. (As low as reasonable achievable) standards.
- Assists in care and maintenance of interventional radiology equipment, and supplies.
- Sets up and adjusts interventional radiology equipment per radiologist protocol for exam.
- Relies on extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology to obtain the maximum diagnostic image corresponding to body parts.
- Receives and reviews requests for radiologic studies.
- Accepts patients and assesses their condition to determine proper handling and special requirements.
- Explains and prepares the patient for all procedures.
- Possesses and utilizes proper sterile technique and isolation procedures when appropriate.
- Assists in the administration and administers various medications under the direction of a physician to render specific organs or systems more opaque.
- Performs all responsibilities / duties required by the department to perform examinations
- Quality controls all images, maintains inventory, and adheres to safety regulations. Participates in training of department personnel, including students.
- Performs various clerical duties.
- Must be available for on call status, as needed, after normal operating hours.
- Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Required to meet and maintain the necessary educational and certification requirements defined by the stroke program.
- Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization.
- May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
- High School Diploma or Equivalent Required and
- Associates Degree Radiology Required
Licenses and Certifications
- Certified Radiology Technologist Licensed State of Florida Upon Hire Required
- Registered Technologist (ARRT) Upon Hire Required
- BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required
- National Institutes Of Health Stroke Scale (NIH) within 90 Days Required
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Superior interpersonal skills.

- Basic Computer skills.
