Job Description Summary: The Contract, Lab Technician, Biology will aid in the management of the proprietary compound collection at the PTC Mountain View Research Site. This individual will be a key member of the research group, providing samples to internal and external collaborators. Additionally, the compound management technician will perform routine chemical and biological assays to support various programs. The successful candidate will be almost pathologically detail-oriented and thrive performing high precision work.

The Contract, Lab Technician, Biology supports adherence to all regulatory requirements and company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) including as appropriate. Job Description:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Primary duties/responsibilities:

  • Under general supervision, manage an efficient and organized laboratory environment
  • Weigh and track solid compound stocks
  • Prepare stock solutions and distribute to assay plates of multiple formats
  • Manage shipping of PTC compounds to US and international research collaborators
  • Perform chemical and biological assays as required to support R&D
  • Collaborate with informatics group on database management and tool development
  • Refine workflow for compound storage and retrieval
  • Maintain a simple ordering procedure that insures timely arrival and adequate stock of needed supplies, reagents, and consumables
  • Specific duties may also include, but may not be limited to, the following: (should be updated/edited based on the role)
  • Promote PTC Safety culture, coordinating with PTC's Safety committee to ensure appropriate safety information is available and safety plans are followed within the laboratory

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED

Ability to communicate and work productively with a diverse group of people.

  • Effective planning, organization, and time management skills including the ability to support and prioritize multiple projects
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, as required, in a fast-paced, matrixed, team environment consisting of internal and external team members
  • Problem solver, self-starter
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite

* Minimum level of education and years of relevant work experience.

  • A.S./B.S. in chemistry, biochemistry or biology preferred, with 0-2 years of experience working as a research lab technician or compound/sample manager.

*Special knowledge or skills and/or licenses or certificates preferred.

  • Familiarity with laboratory informatics software and liquid handling laboratory automation is desirable

Office/Laboratory based position

Expected hourly rate range:

$29.80 - 40.33. The hourly rate will be contingent on assessment of candidate education level, background, and experience relative to the requirements of the position they are being considered for, as well as review of internal equity.
