Your role and responsibilities
As the Division Lead for M&A and Ventures, you support the division in accessing the Industrial Motor Ecosystem and its adjacent markets for M&A opportunities, startup engagement, and strategic partnerships. Aligned with the division's strategy, you coordinate the IEC LV Motors M&A program throughout the entire pipeline cycle, collaborating with key functions. This includes overseeing the idea generation, developing the longlist and shortlist, conducting outreach to target companies, managing the evaluation and development of potential targets, and ensuring successful transaction execution and integration planning. As part of your startup engagement efforts, you lead and coordinate the search for technologies and solutions that drive better outcomes for the IEC LV Motors Division, creating customer value. In close cooperation with key functions, you also help educate the business on disruptive technology opportunities and game-changing business models. The work model for the role is: hybrid ; #LI-Hybrid The role is contributing to the IEC LV Motors division globally. You will be mainly accountable for: *Scouting: Mapping the electrical motor market, identifying potential strategic partners, and making recommendations for partnerships, investments, or acquisitions. *Business Case Development: Evaluating growth opportunities through data analysis, financial modeling, and competitive analysis to support partnerships and M&A deals. *Project Management & Coordination: Ensuring efficient execution of acquisitions, joint ventures, and divestments, coordinating tasks and serving as the division interface throughout M&A transactions. *Startup Challenges: Collaborating with startup incubators and partners to foster innovation and managing ABB's Startup Challenge.
Qualifications for the role
- University degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering) or Business Administration (MBA) with industry experience.
- Experience within the industrial/manufacturing industry is a must, exposure to motor technology, industrial automation, or adjacent sectors is preferred.
- 5+ years preferred in M&A deal execution, valuation, due diligence, and post-merger integration.
- Experience in technology assessments, innovation scouting, and understanding global markets and competitive landscapes in the electrical motor industry.
- Hands-on experience with business intelligence, data analytics, financial reporting, competitive analysis, and financial modeling.
- Understanding of deal origination and execution, project management, and experience in developing partnerships within industrial sectors, with exposure to startup engagement and open innovation ecosystems being a plus.
- Cross-functional experience with R&D, strategy, finance, and legal teams in driving complex projects is a plus.
- Strong technology and business analysis skills, with expertise in financial modeling and identifying growth opportunities.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, along with strong relationship-building abilities.
- Proactive in scouting opportunities and managing priorities, with the ability to evaluate startup viability beyond financials.
- Fluent English language skills.
