Job Overview

As a Lead Technician at Komatsu West, you will play a crucial role in our team by performing timely and effective repairs of machine components in the shop while serving as a technical resource and lead to other shop technicians. Your work will directly contribute to the smooth operation of our equipment and customer satisfaction and support required reports, paperwork, logs and other record keeping for the shop.

Scope



  • Ensure to maintain an annual repair efficiency of 85% to meet company standards
  • Aim to keep annual rework hours below 3% to maximize productivity
  • Meet standard repair times as defined by Komatsu job codes listed in CDK
  • Achieve all company goals to drive success in the service department
  • Prioritize safety and drive the safety culture in the branch

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Complete assigned jobs and tasks efficiently to meet flat rate times and re-do metric
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures set by Komatsu and or Customer to ensure a secure working environment
  • Accurately complete necessary paperwork and access databases required for each job to maintain accurate records
  • Follow contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations diligently to promote a safe workplace
  • Perform part removal/installation, component disassembly/assembly, and assembly testing with minimal supervision
  • Provide accurate quotes and pricing estimates to customers to facilitate transparent communication
  • Diagnose problems, troubleshoot issues, and recommend effective repair solutions
  • Test and verify correct operation of all repairs and adjustments to ensure quality work
  • Apply general failure analysis and procedures to determine the root cause of issues
  • Assist Management team with preparing work schedules, assign mechanics to jobs and ensure timely completion of assignments.
  • Participate as a working Shop Lead with 30% billable time.
  • Complete paperwork to provide accurate and timely billing to customers and correct data for department analysis.
  • Provide technical guidance to mechanics.
  • Other duties that may be assigned to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the local service department.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Associate Degree in Diesel Technology or equivalent preferred
  • 6+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Komatsu technical experience
  • Understands the importance of safety
  • Strong communication skills
  • Computer Skills including Microsoft Office

Additional Information

  • Clean driving record
  • Certified to operate a forklift and/or manlift.
  • May be required to complete a DOT physical.
  • May be required to complete MSHA certification.
  • May be required to complete respirator certification.
  • Must have a complete set of mechanics tools that meet minimum requirements.
