JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Grab Lab in the Department of Entomology is hiring a Research Technologist to support ongoing research activities in the lab. Responsibilities include working as part of a diverse team to ensure smooth operations of lab activities, assisting with the design and execution of research and preparing summaries of research results.

  • Conduct research tasks such as the care of insect colonies and plants in greenhouses and growth chambers, collection and preparation of insect and plant samples, maintenance of research supply inventories. These tasks should be completed independently with minimal supervision and may require some problem-solving skills.

  • Contribute to the development of research methods including applying protocols in new situations, identifying issues and offering solutions.

  • Execute and develop data collection procedures; record, correlate, and analyze data; prepare analysis summaries.

  • Make recommendations for the use of data collection, management, and visualization software.

  • Train users in equipment operation and research techniques; explain and demonstrate technology and equipment capabilities, limitations, and outcomes, maintain laboratory safety documents.

  • Develop project protocols; provide input in determining feasibility of goals and objectives; responsible for assuring quality, cost effectiveness and timeliness of assigned projects

  • Author papers, proposals, presentations and reports in order to disseminate findings to the larger research community.

  • May supervise staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management.

This is a limited term position funded for one year from date of hire with good possibility of refunding.

Education and Experience:

Minimum requirements for this position include a bachelor's degree, previous relevant work experience accepted in lieu of education.

This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$34,800.00 - $50,500.00
